I LOVE pretty much all vegetables, and I bought about 5 packages of turnips. Don't know why--never tried 'em!!!

Okay...first, are they hard to grow?
second, what do they taste like?
third, when do I start them?
fourth, do they start better indoors, or direct seed?
Thanks--I didn't want to start a new thread, so I hijacked YOURS!!! HA, HA!!
Direct sow into soil in early spring or early fall, we use them as a fall crop and eat into winter (they will keep in the ground most all winter)! Eat the greens young, boil or pressure cook them and then add several spoons of vinegar when you eat them. Turnips are something you learn to like the taste. I have only learned to like them as an older adult and I like most everything. I googled for recipes and got some different ways to cook the turnips but like my mother's the best, boiled with sugar added.
