Strawberry Pot

Found a strawberry pot in the back of my shed. Not sure where it came from. As anyone used one for their strawberries? Think I mght use it for flowers.

I planted ever-bearing strawberries in a large pot, last year. They were wonderfully nonstop productive, until frost. The only drawback, it dried quickly in summer. It was late winter when I had them in the greenhouse.

I've seen them used for hens and chicks too, and thought they looked pretty cool that way. Never used one myself.

Boy, I may try that. I gave up my strawberry bed. 6 months of weeding for 2 weeks of berries. And I have tried every mulching technique possible. I got a horrible grassy infestation that I can not longer deal with. I may kill the weeds with black plastic mulch.Leave it for a year or 2 and see if it kills the pernicious weeds.

I do like your strawberries. I've used mine as a container for shade loving plants. I stopped at a local greenhouse/garden center last week and saw a really nice strawberry pot. My first thought was that it would make a great pot for herbs. Herbs growing out of the sides and out the top, it would be perfect for my DIL.

I tried growing strawberries in those posts once. They just dry out too much and really didn't produce. I still have it around and trying what to think what to do with it.

I put herbs in mine,....I never used it for strawberries.
Bizarre. I wonder why I never did? Maybe I will try that. Strawberries in a strawberry jar. That is so intriguing. it might just work.

Mary, I have better luck with pots in the shade. It seems no matter what type of pot, if they get hot sun all day they need water at least once a day - something that apparently I'm not very good at.
Impatiens, trailing lobelia, and bacopa are my favorites - you may have some flowering shade plants there that may do even better. ? ... or some herbs, some don't mind to be on the dry side and some can deal with partial shade.

Or plant it with a colorful selection of sedums!
