Yesterday, I dehydrated cherry tomatoes. I think it was 9 hours and I took them off the liners and they break, they look done, no gooey or soft, but sticky and sticky on the liners and my brother thought the liners were glued to the trays and glue coming off and I said, no that is cherry tomatoes. I put them in a plastic bag when I took them off the tray. I read you can test to see if any moisture that way, condensation on the bag and there was none. I put them in a bowl for the night and now getting ready to put in jars. I noticed some are sticky. They are dry feeling, break, but sticky. Are they dry?

Adding- I read they should not have a "tacky texture." I decided to put them back in. The book says 155F. They fit on 4 trays instead of 9 now. Some blew around like paper. I will check in an hour.

If you put them in a bowl for the night, they might have absorbed humidity from the air, making them sticky. I dehydrated cherry tomatoes last year, cut in quarters. I am not so satisfied with them. I liked the cherry tomatoes I pureed in the blender and made into dehydrated tomato flakes.

I don't go by the "correct" published times. It can take days for mine to get where I want them. Mine are not at all sticky but I probably overdo it. I want them really dry.

I never felt mine were dry enough, unless I scooped out the seeds. They came out perfect then- but it was an exhausting process... You can put the dehydrated tomatoes in the freezer- that is how I store mine.

I put them back in for another hour and they lost that sticky feeling. I loaded it yesterday and I turned it off before I went to bed. I checked this morning and I am letting it go until that sticky feeling is gone. The liners are going to be a lot easier to clean too.

What do you do with dehydrated tomato flakes?

Add to soup, stew, give gravy a zinger taste, cup of hot water for instant cup of soup-good with bouillon cube, pot of peas or beans, top a salad.......or just eat 'em!

I sure like them. I have 9 more pounds in now. This is the third time, so 27 pounds of cherry tomatoes out of the freezer and with all the other tomatoes I have, I would not get these used, before the new ones come this summer. I am going to shut down 2 freezers and save on electricity. I am going to put these in the blender and make powder. I will have a variety of ways of using the tomatoes. I am going to put some of the flakes on my salad tonight. Never thought of the bouillon cube, that really would be good.
