Show off your Pot...

... container planting. I know there's a billion container plant ideas, but what are some of the best, different, or your favorite? Some do better in different climates and I'm always looking for flowers/plants that hang in there for the entire season, especially without TOO much fusing.

@thistlebloom, you mentioned in the other thread about peppers in container planting. The Explosive Embers would be great, no maintenance and this photo was taken Sept. 11 ... they were amazing until frost. (photo doesn't do their 'glow' justice) These were in the ground but I think would do fine in a pot.

What fills a pot quickly but doesn't peter out mid-season for you?
Sun or shade, I've got both... just needing some fresh ideas... thanks!

I have over 20 cement planters lining my driveway at weekend house.Containers need a LOT of water in summer. Because I can only water them 1 day a week, geraniums are the only flower that can handle it and still look good. Would love to hear of any others that can do well with full sun little water.

The only thing I've ever put in a pot and not killed is the Purple Wandering Jew (or Spiderwort, Tradescantia pallida) that I tried this year. There's an annual vinca in there with it that is still alive, but it quit blooming. I have never had good luck with container plants. I forget to water them and they don't tolerate that for long. But this one doesn't seem to require much water. And it's really pretty!

Fun topic Lavender! I love putting containers together, but don't consider myself an expert by a long shot. There is a woman at one of the local nurseries that does containers and she is just a genius at combinations!

I have some new clients that wanted containers planted, but it was kind of a late start so they haven't reached their peak yet.
I added perennials in those- heuchera and lambs ears. So far so good, but the lambs ears might get a little rowdy in there so I'll have to be on top of it. I discovered Persian Shield last year and combined it with elephant ear. I liked how those worked together.

Coleus are favorites, there are so many fantastic colors and no deadheading. Well, just a bit.

I have a container in my micro sized entry that I just threw some leftovers in, and it is actually not too bad.

I can get some pictures of the work containers next week.

I'm definitely wanting to use those peppers in some containers next year.
How early do you start yours?

I put 4 little pots of morning glories on my porch rails this year and then ran fishing line up to the 'roof'. They're just starting to really get going. I hope they will fill out nicely.

What about succulents? I used to collect them and I found they are the easiest things in the world to grow and keep alive (for me anyway!). There are also some really pretty ones and flowering ones out there.

@thistlebloom, I started the peppers April 1, they were planted out the last week of May with flowers on and quickly filled out with peppers.

We have some cactus growing wild next to our driveway. It gets water only when it rains and that doesn't happen here very often. We basically forget about the poor plants until they flower, when they are impossible to ignore:
