Yeah, I got a OOPS too! But about that super cold winter.....didn't we just do that and don't we need a mild winter this year?

I'm hoping that is for the 2013 almanac which makes it 100% right for a change. 2014 should be warmer -- please, please, please -- no matter that we have twice the acorns as in a normal year. Guess I'll have to check the wooly worms and other winter signs.

Don't see much clarity there either. I know that more brown is supposed to be mild and more black; colder. But I only saw one wooly bear like caterpillar this year, and it was dead white. What the hell is THAT supposed to mean?

I really hope they are wrong. My rice beans have JUST started to get on with reproduction, and a mild versus sever winter could be the demining factor in whether I get a good harvest a poor harvest or absolutely no harvest at all (though I suppose that has less to due with how hard the winter will be and more to do with how soon it gets here.) With my outside sources dwindling, my whole breeding project could be on the line.
Speaking of bugs and weather, something just occurred to me. Given how cold last winter and spring were up here, there should have been a lot of "flips" among the two spot ladybugs (bugs whose shells are red dots on black as opposed to black dots on red) But I don't think I've seen ANY this year Of course, I haven't seen all that many normal two spots either; mostly it's been the thirteens and a smattering of those tiny yellow ones with the dog's face on the back (that I understand are actually a pest, and should be removed unlike the red ones.)

I heard we were supposed to get a La Nina in the West here... which will mean another year of drought for us. We had an early spring which caught everyone off guard, and now it looks like we'll have an early winter too.
