Depends on where you live. Horse is eaten all over Europe, as is donkey meat, which is called poopy (I swear, I'm not kidding) In fact Saucisson d' Ane (donkey meat salami) is the local specialty of the French city of Arles (the place where Van Gough did all of his painting). Its' pretty common in the North of Asia as well. Heck the Mongolians don't only eat horse meat, they drink horse milk. Traditionally that's what kumiss (fermented milk, and Mongolia's official national alcoholic drink) is supposed to be made of, though it's more commonly cow now (probably with the decrease in small family owned herds, there is a shortage of milching mares now.)
