unrelenting cold and snow, Northeast

I think the only thing worse would be finding the coffee shelf empty.
i'm with you lavender it's a cardinal sin to run out of coffee here at the house....

That sounds about right. We got that amount last night. Still got kids to school on time (more or less) Only 5 minutes later than normal day. I always have plenty of food in pantry and fridge to ride out most any storm. No need to make a food run.
the schools around here if they see a patch of ice they either delay or shut school.
last week because snow/sheet/ice the kids only went to school for a half day monday... this week tuesday, today and friday schools closed.

Sooo the kids only went to school 1 1/2 days this week! Poor Parents!

We were once cut off from civilization by a flood the day we were planning to go to the grocery store. We had plenty of food in reserve, but we were out of coffee! I mentioned this on FB and someone else in my ghost town saw my post, called me to say she had enough to share, and met me half way in the rain. That's a true friend!!

We just moved from hurricane country, just in time for ice/snow storm. We didn't rush the stores, we always have a well stocked pantry and full freezer. So no biggie. Schools and businesses closed and we stayed home. Hurricane experience -- before the storm stores are wiped out. Afterwards, with no power for weeks, whatever is left is ruined. The atmosphere when grocery stores open back up is hushed, grateful, almost reverent. And yeah, just what recipe calls for 4 gallons of milk and 4 loaves of bread? LOL

Some of the rural schools around here have been closed nearly two weeks, due to the snow. A foot of snow, no thawing temps, miles and miles of country roads.

Soon, this thread will die off to become unrelenting mud season or hot weather. I can see that after Sunday night, it is not supposed to drop below zero in the foreseeable future! (I know it may come back, but time is working against it).
YEAH

As a bus driver I would rather stay home those days too! But that is a LONG time for the kids and their parents! Going to be HOT by the time they make up missed days.

From just over 8 hours from sunrise to sunset on December 21st ..

. right here, we now have an 11 hour day!
