In Indiana, you can only use deprivation permits during hunting season.

@thistlebloom what may be gouging to you, may be fair compensation of investment, time, risk, etc to me.

In WV you can use them when the crops are actually being destroyed by the animal. Very legal, I assure you.

I guess it's all in everyone's own eyes what is gouging and what is not. And I guess the OP is entitled to his own opinion on what he sees and feels about it then.

I'll stick with having no part in them or approving of them, under any circumstances. Wise as serpents and gentle as doves....and having no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reproving them.

What you do at home for personal use cannot be compared to a farmer raising food as a source of income. I consider my time for my growing of food to be free labor. With any business time is money and mortgages must be paid. If you hold an animal longer than a grain fed animal that raises the cost for you to do business.

I may not always agree with seed obsessor but I do take issue with those who disagree with him and immediately attack him because of his age. I am glad he has an opinion on more than fashion and television as is with most people his age.

Who's approving them?
I don't have any control over anybody who is not selling anything at a fair price other than using my feet and walking away.
It happens, I didn't say it was right.

Seriously? WEST Virginia. It's a whole other state, you know. Not western Virginia. Crop permits are issued upon application for them if you are experiencing crop damage from deer.

First check the meaning of the word "permit"...it means the person has been given permission to do this thing. Each state develops their own laws about seasons, animals allowed, in which county you can hunt what animals, etc. This is not a federal thing, but a state by state case.

I'm thinking you aren't a hunter? If you were you'd know that no state is the same.

Wildlife damage permits are another option available to the landowner. If the herd cannot be reduced during the regular hunting season through sport hunting, provisions are available for obtaining permits from the DNR to remove deer which cause damage. Specific information is available from your local DNR conservation officer. Although crop damage is an attractive alternative and can be effective at removing specific offending animals, it can require significant amounts of time.

Bee, read article you attached. Extra deer are harvested during a regulated hunting season. You can get the permits at any time. You can only use them during regulated times. Same as Indiana.
