Gladiolus

Hmm, always have done 2 inches...interesting. Just received a bunch of bulbs from a friend. Very excited to get them in the dirt!

I am always trying to grow crocosmia, but the longest I've had it come back is two consecutive years. I've tried both the normal recommendation for depth, and planting it deep. The deep planting and deep fall mulch seemed to have the most success, but it could have been the type of winter too.
I'll keep trying, I love that flower.

That is why I always keep the tender plants I love growing in pots right into the ground. They are easy to pull up at summer's end and keep them inside until spring without endangering permanent plants growing nearby.

Well THAT'S not going to happen around here! lol
I'm willing to mulch deep for winter, but by the end of the season I'm weary and very ready to be done with it all and sit by the fire again.
