took the buckets in this morning, have a couple good friends that i was let have first pickings before i put everything out on the table in the break room, while putting everything on the table one smart ass said where's the hot peppers i want more hot peppers. i stood there for a second and just plain ripped into him.<do you know how much"f ing" time and labor and cost has gone into growing these veggies, you know sport i have never asked for anything except a thank you a plain thank you, your a greedy "f"ing "a" hole>.
the g/m was in the smoking area and over heard this, thought i was going to get a reprimand for my language, she walked in told him to sit down, she took a bag filled it up and said thank you, see that was not to hard was it and she walked away..... at the end of his shaft he was walked out of the building. he was already on his 3rd strike...

onto better things.. yes everybody loves the eggplants that i bring in, walked out to the garden today and found this little jewel....

picked them down yesterday i think by thursday there will be at least another bucket full and another ready in by the following wednesday .. note to self 3 plants next year... they are one producing variety... might have turned the the taste plate of the redneck southerners from okra to eggplant they are the first thing gone everytime i bring them in....

in my lunch box found half of the charentais melon in it... oh oh my that was out of this world... locked the doors to my office while eating nope not sharing this..... that's a definite do over...... yes a select few will get a couple melons....owner,g/m and my veggie girlfriend...

I want to be a veggie girlfriend! I loved the gm's response, priceless.

How many plants are producing that many eggplants? What variety is it? Do you save seed from it? If you do, you know I'm going to ask you for 6 seeds. ;)

People have problems with charentais. I've seen complaints and just statements that they aren't anything special. Others say they can't figure out when they are ripe. And, they split.

That last one is right. The problem is ripeness. They should stay on the vines until the last possible moment. Beyond that moment, they split ... but they should still be okay for a few hours.

How does a gardener know when these totally non-food industry melons are ripe? Where have I said this before? I get right down on the ground and smell them.

If they don't smell like something special, they can stay there in the garden for another day or so. I don't mind getting back down there again.

mary they are called clara ,from johnnys they are an hybrid. planted 6 of them this year if i had to guess to-date have probably picked 8-10 5 gallon buckets worth, if the weather holds i guess another 7+ buckets worth. if you want some seeds let me know and i will send them to you...

next year cutting back on how many i plant..... who knows just might plant sometime different...

Well I had no idea that eggplants had huevos....:oops:

steve your last sentence is so true... for the last week all you can smell is cantaloupe while working out in the garden... thank goodness they are not all ripening at the same time....

told the dw that if there was an perfume that had the aroma of a ripe cantaloupe and she was wearing it, i would be on her "like a tick on a hound dog on a hot summer night" got a funny look then she got it....
