We don't eat out much at all, maybe 5 or 6 times a year so you can take that into consideration with my next comment, but I like Olive Garden. I don't go there expecting an authentic Italian experience. To me it's just food that tastes good and I get to sit down while somebody else cooks it and cleans the kitchen.

Here's what I found as I dove into the rabbit hole that is these "XXX tries XXX for the first time" vids. So many things wrong about this chicken farm I don't know where to start, but at least these folks actually killed something and ate it. Kudos to them....though it would take us all day to get through a processing if we had to do a group hug with each chicken.

Well, we have a pretty limited selection of good dining establishments around here compared to the major cities. Most mom and pops serve homestyle or southern food here. We do have a "real" Italian restaurant in town that was opened by my old volleyball coach who actually is a full-blooded Italian by descent. The food is pretty good, although I wouldn't say it rises much above Olive Garden standards. I get the same dish every time I go to Olive garden, so I can't really say much about the food as a whole, but as far as the big chain restaurants go, I do prefer Olive Garden for the atmosphere. It's one of few places where the music isn't so loud that you can't hear your companions speak!

Music? What music?

Speak?

Food? If I want something simple and simply good, I can do that. If someone needs to fuss around with a single serving and dribble some sauce here and there on an otherwise clean plate, I can do that, too.

Homestyle? Made jalapeno poppers last night with store bought peppers, 4 cheeses, garlic, and cilantro. Leftovers into a casserole, today.

Steve :)

My wife braught home a recipe for German Potato Salad ( provided by the office manager who considers herself a very good cook ) that is to be for her dish to prepare for her all day office meeting for this Thursday. This to to serve 20 people. So, last night, she did a small sample run to see how good it was for our dinner. After tasteing it, :barnie :sick I commented to my wife to prepare a substitute if she wanted to keep her reputation as a source of culinary delight. :smack

I haven't been to Olive Garden for over 25 yrs and it sits right across the way from the Chinese buffet spot we regularly eat it, when we do eat out. I sort of liked their Cesar salads there but can't remember much else except they were pricey and the food was rather bland.

Of course, I think most restaurant food is rather bland compared to what I make at home....the Chinese place seems to be able to inject a little flavor into their foods but I still have to eat jalapenos with it all in order to get the zest I like. I know they have to make food for John Q public and most people must prefer nursing home or hospital food, if that's the case, but most restaurant food tastes much like cardboard to me. :sick Very little flavor, mushy texture, not many fresh ingredients.

Ate in a place in Georgetown once and it was GREAT...and I only had the salad bar. Fresh food, seasoned properly, tasted like it was actually prepared by people who cared. Around these parts? Not many people take pride in their food and it shows.

New BBQ place in town and it's really good thus far...pricey, but flavorful BBQ. We'll see how quickly they can grow apathetic in their cooking and the business slacks off. I think it's a problem with hiring the right employees...they offer such a low wage that they only get young people working and most do not have much of a work ethic, if any at all.

Bee...With some noise makers that are running for office tauting a $15/ hr. minimum wage. That BBQ place will eather raise their prices even more or lay off their workers and possibly go out of business alltogether. If the businesses lay off their workers, they will file for unemployment, food stamps, and welfare. Who will pay for all of these benefits ? ... why you and me. You see, with an advent of $15 / hr. minimum wage will result in the rest of us in effect getting a pay cut as prices rise accross the board for the businesses to survive and empty our pocketbooks. So, the rest of us will demand a increase in our paychecks, resulting in prices for goods and services rising exponentially. Result ... your guess is as good as mine.
