Muscovies don't quack. They are quiet and make a hissing noise. They set and brood their own young and reproduce a LOT.
Some years ago, I had a Pekin drake and 3 hens, which by fall they had hatched their own broods totaling 96 duckings that I invited into freezer camp. Talk about mouth watering gourmet dining for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's feasts !!! :drool:drool:drool :celebrate :weee

I listened to Patara on Appalachian Homestead on YouTube talk about how she thought ducks were one of the best critter you could raise on a homestead. I'm really hoping someday to get some muscovy ducks.

Commercial Duck sold in stores r usually muscovies.

Black East Indian ducks are beautiful. They like to fly though.

Cheapest meat to raise are geese.

Black East India Ducks like to fly, yes they do. My three use to take off for an hour or two every afternoon to the river (really a stream) across the street from us but they were always back for their supper and marched right up the ramp into their pen before dark.
