Some new sedum/succulents in my rock garden.

Sadly the chickens took out all the columbine last fall when DH let them run the yard. So I put a few new sedum/succulents in. Here are my faves.

And a fun planter I picked up at Kohl's and filled with succulents.

Great planter, I more and more like succulents because they are hardy plants once established hard to kill. Also we have not had a deer eat any of them plus only bug I have saw on them have been spittle bugs that don't phase them really.

Mary not even plantings like these? not mine I wish they were. Pictures taken at a little succulent nursery I used to go to....


You can even do wall hangings or hanging baskets, granted these are mostly tender succulents but even the hardy ones can make a really nice statement and if you have somewhere you can winter the tenders and, if you live in a climate where you can grow tender succulents outside year round, oh, the possibilities. I have to say I'm just a wee bit jealous.

My first attempt at a hanging basket, mostly in the sedum family, basket picked up at a garage sale for 50 cents.

My daughter ended up with it. This past winter I lost most of my succulents, the minimal heat I had in my greenhouse wasn't enough.

I made a sedum planting in a stoneware pot last year, or maybe the year before, ...I forget. Anyway, I've noticed that the combination I put together has one really good spreader that has pretty much crowded the others out.
So now it's a mono planting haha. But I don't do anything to it and it winters fine in it's place by the sidewalk, getting piled with snow from the roof and the sidewalk shovelings.

Annette, those are really pretty. I especially like the reddish one in the center with the ruffled leaves.

I have this one but it keeps getting broken with the kids running by.
