They let school out early today. Wind blew snow all night and a.m. cause drifting and packing on secondary roads. Then it began to rain. Instant ice. We are now topping that with more snow (a possible 6 more inches). I am NOT a fan of winter. :(

Drive safe. Here we have a problem of #&$(@)* passing stopped school buses. I think they should lose their license. Putting them in a dark dungeon is not allowed as is public flogging.

Thank You Seedcorn. It has been a BIG problem here. Iowa has gotten serious. The fines are BIG and losing your license is very possible. :) The district I drive for also has TWO outside mounted cameras that WILL photo you as you drive by... HA !!!! No longer can you deny you did it. The proof is in the photo. I do think the word has gotten out and there have been far fewer of those incidents. :) About time.

We are expected to get some snow today, somewhere around 1 or at most 2 inch. Since we are quite densely populated, trains are already running at half the normal numbers and there is a traffic warming about slippery roads. Can you believe all this turmoil from 2 inch of snow? o_O:th

We have no snow equipment, it is not economically feasible for the 3-4 days a year that we have snow/ice and some winters we get none at all. So 2" of snow shuts everything down except for the idiots who go out driving at high speeds and have wrecks.

That's a beautiful scene! I think you should put it on the POW thread.

I have some questions Jen, the vanes on the windmill don't look like they have any wind catching material on them, is that a seasonal thing or is the windmill not in service anymore?

And, those trees look like they get pollarded every year, is that a standard practice in Holland?
I didn't take the picture so I won't post it in the pow thread.
The windmill is still being used, although it's function has been replaced by an electric waterpump. The mill can still mill water to the canal after heavy rainfall. The vanes only get a cloth for extra wind when there's almost no wind, otherwise it doesn't need them.
The trees are willow and are pollarded every other year and this is quite common in Holland. You see it all over Holland along waterways and alongside roads.

We got about 10' last night and this morning. It's a bluebird day out there right now, and it's killing me to be stuck in the house painting my kitchen!
