Reminds me of Mom. She'd complain she could not see out because of the trees. I'd say if you cut them then people can see in. She did not want them cut after all.

Or my wife's nephew, an architect but a city boy. When he was talking window treatment he said, you live in the country, why do you need blinds or curtains on the windows. There's no one to see in.

we don't have curtains or blinds. if anyone wants to look in and see Mom says it will scar them for life and they'd never look again. :) in a few of the smaller windows we have different colored bottles on glass shelves to give a stained glass effect.

the trees out front are now able to block the wind, noise and dust from the fields and road, but they're also starting to block the light from the gardens and that's not going to help over the longer term.

and i don't like big trees too close to the house.

a white pine can grow pretty big in 20yrs. one here by the house is 40ft and almost 2ft across at the base of the trunk. it gets plenty of water and sun. i wanted to remove it when it started getting too big. Mom said no. gonna cost $ now - before i could have done it...

I'm moving to a place on the 4th tee box, about 10 ft away, pro and men's right there (ladies is down the slope). So that side of the house has lots of window coverings. The back of the house faces a fairway, and homes waaay in the distance. Binoculars would be necessary to see me.

Where I'm at right now, on 2.6 acres, I can barely see a house. Sigh.

What a difference, thistle! I wonder if it changed any of the light in the beds around your house...opening up that much area.

Not so much the house beds, but definitely opened up the view from the road. I'm okay with it now, the beauty bush has leafed out and provides some screening.

The lilac I planted to screen the propane tank appreciates it.
It survived my husbands brush clearing (twice) and has rebounded so I expect it to do even better now.

I almost missed this thread! Thank goodness for BIG MACHINERY. That would have been time consuming and back breaking work to clear.
