Thanks. I’ve tried different times. Always get that anise flavor which I hate

Seeing little girls in pajamas sharing home-grown strawberries over the fence early on a Saturday morning is just about everything I need out of life.

Your lucky nice backyard. A good dog or cat is worth their weight in gold keeping wildlife away

Yes, I agree. I lost most of my purple hull pea crop to rats last year, until a feral cat moved in. She stayed regular. I'm cashing in on rat control in the garden and around the chicken yard, but the flip side is chick loss. Net positive, just have to be vigilant regarding predator proofing.

Love that picture of those little girls. You must have great neighbors.

We have outstanding neighbors. Sometimes it feels like we’re a family of 10: four parents raising six kids. There are tons of stories of us helping one another with the kids, but my favorite is that if it weren’t for me going over there to keep their oldest two kids after a frantic call from them at 5:30am one morning, their third child would have been born at home or on the side of the highway. (They *barely* made it; she was born in an ER triage room, less than 5 minutes after they got to the hospital. No way they make it otherwise.)

Can feel your neighbors appreciation as I got from home, wife said, it’s time, dropped oldest at neighbor girls & raced to hospital. Her water broke as we walked in.....son loved it as he got to eat junk and drink all the pop he wanted......

On the Monday after Thanksgiving, two of my nearby neighbors put huge pumpkins out on the street for trash pickup. Being that it was at the time of year that I had ton of dead leaves but little “green” matter for composting, I eagerly grabbed them before the city got them, took them to my compost pile, smashed them to smithereens, and mixed them in.

Fast forward to this morning. Look what’s happening on the back side of my pile.

On a general note, this is insane. I need to take pics of some gardens that neighbors have. Apparently the combo of the early start and the compost-improved soil made a much bigger difference than I could have ever imagined. Pretty much everything is going gangbusters.
