Last week I was working in a clients garden and the pest control guy was spraying around the foundation of the house. I heard a yell/scream and looked over -wasp nest?
No, he said, you gotta come see this!
I walked around, and there was this tiny fawn lying against the foundation. Pest guy had been spraying and not looking ahead and got her square in the face.
She bleated and scared the tar out of him.
Obviously she couldn't stay there because he intended to finish spraying so I volunteered to move her. I picked her up, (and you know she was brand new because I was able to do this without her sprinting off). She immediately started yelling for mom and made me nervous about getting attacked, but her mom didn't appear and I carried her over to a hedge she could hide behind. I stepped over to set her down and there was her twin!
As much as deer aggravate me there and make me want to chase them with a fork, it's not possible to think murderous thoughts about a fawn.
Pretty cool that I actually got to hold one for a few seconds.
I checked a few hours later and they were both gone. Next year I will be cussing them for decimating the landscape, but for a few minutes there, all was sweetness and light.
