I enjoy watching all of the ladies and their escapades in "Life on the Web". I haven't found a whole lot online about the little idiosyncrasies they show me. In...they don't always use the zig zag pattern. They don't always make a new web in the mornings. AND.....they don't eat anything and everything bug related. I found out they won't eat Kissing bugs. Nor each other. Or fuzzy caterpillars or worms.

Also, that some of my chickens will eat them, as did the peacock.

They have good eyesight...for movement and distance.

Tune in for another episode of ..."Life on the Web!!".

Oooo...the big 'un got sweet revenge on me this morning. I had relocated her Saturday, up at the 2 rosebushes across from the side door to the kitchen. I have 9 already in there. Rose bushes, clematis, hosta and peony. LOTS of bugs. Nom nom
Well....she and another huge one got all pissy at me and stormed off into the underbrush of weeds. The Big 'Un....she sat on the other big ones web, and proceeded to launch herself off. Well. pffft
So, this morning I looked outside the door and saw the other big one back in her spot. Happily catching and eating her bugs. I didn't see Ms Big 'Un anywhere.

So I grabbed my outside cats food, and stepped outside the door. RIGHT. INTO. HER. WEB. Of course, she was crawling up my arm. Silly girl. I NEVER thought to look there.

I know they have good eyesight and can see long distances. She must have thought that was a good spot. Except we use that door exclusively.

I grabbed the mop and twisted the handle off. She resisted my moving her ...again...but I got her transplanted to the other rose bush.

I see they both are thinner now compared to Saturday. Perhaps there are 2 new egg sacks in there somewhere now.

;):p:D

this is like the adult version of _Charlotte's Web_ ... :)

:thumbsup I think it is neat how observing the animals we share this planet with...we find out that so many of them have personalities too.

Update: Big 'Un.....apparently a spider only saves back enough web to spin once a day. Then eats it and recycles it.
I put her on a spot on the rose bush. After about 1 hr, she turns around, facing down....and glues her hind end to the rose twig. She had already made her web for the day, over the house door.

At least she is where I can watch her now. I have relocated 3 so far.

I keep having to re-locate Big 'Un. She likes to plant herself right u=out front and center. At the rosebushes, she was in the mowing area, so I re-located her to the potting shed. Well...there she is AGAIN! Right where she will get mowed over!
The spot has also been home to another garden spider. She has had her fave spot all summer. Well, this morning, I am doing the spider count....and she is gone! Now, BU had planted herself off to the side of this one.
I guess she didn't like BU sitting there. I looked around the potting shed eaves......she had packed her web up and moved to the opposite side. By the other huge spider. Too funny.

I see lots of the ladies have male friends hanging out close by. Ready to start another batch of spider babies. :p

I am not sure how to post pictures on this new format. Can I post from my hard drive? I have to download the app if I do it on the cellphone.
