I am thinking of planting sweet peas this year. I saw these in Ace Hardware. https://www.botanicalinterests.com/product/High-Scent-Sweet-Pea-Seeds Has anybody grown these or know about sweet peas? Are they hard to grow? Looks like they need cool weather.

Annual sweet peas have a fragrance like nothing else. Wonderful.

I see that Stokes has that variety this year. I have grown Spencer, several times. It was said to be more summer heat tolerant. That is not available from Stokes in 2020. A quick search shows that Reneè's Garden has Spencer. Royal was the last one I grew. I think that was 2018. It didn't take the heat very well but had brighter colors and more fragrance.

Maybe I will try that High Scent this year.

same here... Its gonna be a nutritious harvest when that happens... I really love peas...

edible sweet peas are different species than the ones often found wild around here or those grown for their scent/flowers.

i found this site as in interesting read as i always thought the flower/scent kind were not edible...

I remember Mom trying to grow Sweep Peas when I was a kid. They did not do that well. East Tennessee was too hot and probably too dry. They just burned up when the heat of summer hit. My wife's mother tried to grow them in Kansas, they looked pretty sad. They may work better in your location but you may need to pick your location, maybe partial shade.

Ground. They come up well.

The town about 1° latitude south (Pullman Washington) is known as the "Dry Pea & Lentil Capital of the US." That doesn't mean that sweet pea flowers last long when our dry, hot weather hits. But ... noting a few perks for living here keeps me happy .

I was thinking of putting some in big pots I have on my patio and would be same for shade and then I wanted to put some at the edge of the garden.

We have only planted them one time, and it was many years ago. I only remember they grew fast and started flowering then the summer heat/sun cooked them to death rather quickly. We planted them in hanging baskets and they grew all the way to the ground really fast but as soon as the hot summer sun hit them they were done. It did not accure to me that maybe moving them to partial shade would maybe be the best for them, we basically had them in full sun by our tomato pots. I am now may be ready to give it another try.
