The Pond Thread

Beautiful Koi. I'm re-designing one of my ponds, due to having to re-place the liner because of a hole, and making it smaller. Then have to work on another pond, which also has been losing water. Don't have the filter system that you have.

Decided on a 15ft wide, 20ft long, 7ft total depth pond.
2ft will be above ground in block, 2ft will be below ground & 3ft will be just the dug out dirt.
Foamboard, $270.
Math ends up at supplies costing 4k roughly.
I didn't do the math for-
A footer, probably adds $200-300.
Top stone to cover liner edge, $150-200.
Any new plumbing parts, glues, wire ties, trowel, footer framing, $200.
So, maybe a grand total of nearing 5k for a 15,700 gallon pond.

Only found one company. They're in Texas or something. I think back then I asked for a quote for a 7x25x30ft? And it was just the concrete shell.
FOURTYFIVE THOUSAND! $45,000!
WTF for????
No way.

....redneck soaking tub/pool! 😅
I may also move a few sale koi in temporarily, too...

Filled up!
Ordered a basic filter kit for it. Picking up a UV for future green water issues.

engineering work, excavation, cement, form work, rebar, labor and finish work, transportation, insurance and other overhead (health care insurance). i checked pool prices in VA and that price was not outrageous, but yeah, you'll be spending some $ if you want a cement pond.

now you understand why those black pond liners have become so popular... don't play lawn dart games or other sharp pokey type things in that area. i suppose unicorn leap-frog would be right out too.

Lol. But pools do EVERYTHING.
This company only did the forms, rebar and pouring of concrete. No plumbing, no digging, no permit pulling, no tile work, no filters, nothing of the sort.

Me doing it costs 5k. 40k more for someone else's experience and labor is unacceptable. Usually, it's double the cost of supplies, so 10k would of been fine. Any more is pure greed and manipulation.

i would not equate cement blocks with rebar and concrete formed construction, but i also think your price for the footing for the blocks all around is way low. i don't see the price of a liner either in your own figures.

oh, i just noticed that you are not doing the same size project as what you asked for a quote, so that changes things quite a bit too. uhg, i'm not going to compare apples to oranges here, i'm too sleepy. :)

It doesn't even matter.
45k for concrete will never be acceptable.

Redneck pool update! 73F

Ugh!
The first pump blew up because of this part. Now this pump is fixing to blow up, because of this part.

Worse is that finding an exact match isn't possible. Pond & pool stores don't carry these. Ugh!!
