What do you know about the Hami Melon?

No major seed company sells the seed. My favorite cultivar site has no information link but the melon page hasn't been updated in 5 years. You can buy it on Etsy but, what is that? Google search tells me that there are many hybrids so if I would have just saved the seeds out of the one we ate ...

We had one in 2020 and a couple Hami this year. Quite unique and Good!

Search in Wikipedia: Hami City is in northern China and has a rather dramatic climate. Very cold in the summer to becoming very hot after warming for a few months during the growing season. Maybe a melon from Hami City would do okay here .

i've never heard of them before, can you describe them, flavor, color, size, habit, etc.

i was glad to see today that the melon plants here are starting to bloom.

This has good information about everything but the size of the ones we bought at the supermarket. They weren't watermelon size but were a little larger than cantaloupe.

85 days ... I need to do some more exploring. I have tried "Asian melons" before. A couple of early varieties. Nope. More like a very bland cucumber. But, not this one.

Asian melons are something else. Hami* is classified as a muskmelon. It has orangey flesh and netting, as opposed to white flesh and smoot yellow skin with ribs.

A long time ago, The Seed Zoo had a similar melon from Zhejiang. I had seeds but never got it to grow.**

*Hami is probably OK on it's own since saying Hami-Gua melon is technically redundant (Gua, or Gwa means melon or gourd) It's sort of like referring to the Japanese cream fleshed Sukiya as a Sukiya watermelon, Sukiya alrady means that.

** I do remember remaking that, for a muskmelon, the seeds were tiny.
