Difficult way to develop an interest, Dirtmechanic. But, I don't understand how they would "eradicate" the disease if it infects a number of wild critters and is spread by ticks. Perhaps that serves as calling it a cure.

We had a New England gardener on TEG who also was as a moderator (@Reinbeau). She became quite ill from Lyme disease and dropped off the forum.

I had read on Barron's about the new vaccine mentioned in the article. (And, Barron's take on the old vaccine which was pulled from the market.)

This is not a vaccine from what I get, rather a chemical that can be spread into the wilds. Kinda like bug spray I reckon. Later it will be recalled no doubt.

When the disease gets rolling, it sends darts into the very low oxygen areas of your body. Because it is O sensitive an oxygen tent for living in 3 to 6 months is not out of the question for the patient to increase oxygen saturation levels. While joint misery and other inflammations plague you of course.

if mice carry the disease then you're really in for a challenge to control it no matter how you try.

mice are all over the place in any habitat that will support them if there isn't enough other balancing system of predators. humans rarely tolerate enough mouse predators so that's a way of making the disease more prevalent too than it would otherwise be.

Every time I find a magic spray for my garden it works great for a few years, and then something even more aggravating decides to move into the vacancy I created with my magic potions.

heh, yeah, the last time i sprayed for any kind of bug was about 15 years ago. it didn't really accomplish anything and wasted my time. if i can't hand pick off the bugs enough that the plant will survive the plant isn't meant to be here.

this year i did a few rounds of picking off the Japanese Beetles from some of the beans but after about four times i didn't bother any more. i'm sure it had some impact on the total harvest but i didn't see a huge population on some of the beans i expected to get ravaged later on. i think the hot and dry weather really set them back a lot more than my trying to pick them off.
