just an FYI though, @Marie2020 that water voles above are not the same voles that we're talking about over here across the pond. voles are much different than what your video is showing. :) cute creatures. :)
So what are the voles like there ?

the ones i'm thinking of are smaller, darker, more stubbier feet, tails. some people confuse them with mice. there are a few species but i rarely see more than the one we call a vole it does have another name added here as a meadow vole at times but i don't think i've ever heard anyone call them that when speaking of them.

there are more than one species of voles over here. i'm glad i don't have to deal with them that often.

Hmmm 🤫 . What your description reads to me is what we may call field mouse.

There is a big difference between a field mouse and a vole. Voles here are garden destroyers. They got better than half of my carrots this year. They specifically cleaned out the really sweet varieties of carrots. In the past I have had them work over the beets, potatoes and tomatoes.

They are bigger than field mice with fat stubby tails compared to the long slender tails of field mice.

That ”water vole” is the spitting image of our musk rats! Hard to get a perspective of it’s size from the picture but a decent rat would be a foot long minus the tail and a pelt taken in the proper season would sell for between $2.00 to $6.00 each; where im from.
