I found a farm stand and then a local garden nursery yesterday. The farm stand is amazing. I watched a crew plant things about a month ago, Seedlings. Then yesterday I went by to buy. The plants of everything are humongous! I asked why. They make looooonnnnggg mounds. Run soaker hoses. Cover with plastic. Make a hole. 2T of 16-16-16. Then plunk the seedlings in. Plus they said the earth is really good there.
I then went to a flower farm. OH MY GOSH. So many varieties that I've never seen before. They start and grow everything there. They've got 10 long greenhouses. I bought some rhubarb. The last time I tried to grow it was in Murphys CA and I literally watched the plant get pulled down into the ground by a gopher.

Almost a month later and things are still growing, inspite of several days of over 100 degrees. I planted three fruit trees. Two brown turkey figs, and a different variety of persimmon that will grow up here. Also two types of plums. I had to cover the figs and persimmon due to the scorching heat.

My chicks are now almost 6 weeks old and have left the house and moved into their secure coop. No more red light either. Hubs redid what was there a bit, made some of it more secure and put in our poop mortar tubs and another roost. We like this method, and I only have to clean the coop twice a year. We found acoustic tile on the floor, so someday will replace with tile and put in a drain so I can hose everything out.

We had a fig tree in southern Oregon, Rhodie Ranch.

It's wonderful to have figs.

I understand that even in upstate New York, some gardeners have figs. They only allow two roots to grow from the trunk. As winter arrives, a trench is dug on one side with no roots and the tree is tipped so that it can be covered with soil and leaves for winter protection. Quite an undertaking!

We had a fig tree in Northern California years back and it grew delicious figs!
