Lost my beautiful old horse

For the last few years I have been telling my husband I needed another horse to keep Rascal company and one that I can ride .He just kept saying not to get another horse. I am strong and healthy but I am at an age that could change. AS soon as my boy was gone he started talking about another one. My daughter and husband built a house way back behind our horse field. They have 3 1/2 year old twins. She never expressed an interest in getting a horse, but did say he kept the coyotes away. If I had back up help for the future I would consider one. But we also have been talking about a beef cow. My Son in laws Dad is a beef farmer in the south, so I think he would love to give it a try. For now I plan to go to a stable and ride one of their old plugs.

It never gets easier, but, you didn't have to feed a horse whose teeth would wear down to nothing.
I'll bet a nickle you end up with another this year.
I read a recent blog where some woman went to South Dakota and went on a rental trail ride and brought home the gelding she was riding.
Same thing could happen to you.
My sweet mare will be 25yo this year.

I am at the age I would have to worry about outliving a new horse. Not for now but if one comes knocking on met door.....
 
I'm so sorry for your loss. He and his friend, Stevie, were both beautiful creatures.

Not a day goes by that I don't miss out little herd of mares, after losing the last little Shetland pony at age 36 about a dozen years ago. But at my age, with my husband also gone to greener pastures, another equine is not on the table for me. I feel that their spirits still remain on the property, in the pasture and in and out of their walk-in barn. Your Rascal is also most likely a presence that will always remain with you as well.
