That was SOME bad weather last weekend! It stretched from Alabama north to Wisconsin, east through Indiana, Tennessee and Ohio, through Pennsylvania into Delaware and Maryland.
Had to text my cousin in New Jersey, but he said he also dodged a bullet and got some much needed rain, instread.

...and more to come. A weatherguy was showing some stats where the number of reported 'nados is near the Alabama annual high mark already but then said some might get connected into longer tracks which would lower the number. I wonder where weather watching ranks against all other Alabama sports?

the first daffodils are getting closer here, they are usually the miniature ones. perhaps a few more days and they'll be showing up. :)

as for weather in general this time of the year almost anyplace east of the Rockies it makes sense to "Keep an eye on the sky."

the rains here picked up yesterday and last night which soaked everything down pretty well and more forecast for tonight and tomorrow.

daffs are gone here. Now it's the time of ferns.

They're sold here in early spring at the grocery store, as food. I've not eaten them as I hear they are mildly carcinogenic, but they do look like they'd be succulent morsels steamed with butter.

i'm talking about what they look like before they poke up their stalks.

at first they start out like a slime mold growing on the surface and then eventually they look like:

and then you get the stalks which (like fungi that have mushrooms that pop up) are the fruiting body that spreads the spores.

Wow, that's a different stage for sure! I was thinking of

i don't have a specific picture of them at the slime mold looking stage, but this picture has some in the right upper corner (the darker stuff) and some bits in the lower right. it really does look like a gelatinous coating when it gets wet and hasn't been disturbed. the patches in this picture were scraped several times and broken up so they're not "natural" as they would be had i not scraped them up.

sometime i need to get a specific picture of them as they are so interesting looking. or perhaps i can find one in my collection someplace that is better.
