one of the crab grass plants i got out of the north garden yesterday was spread out across nearly 6ft. i've never seen one that big. guess that garden soil is pretty good and plenty of moisture is retained when it rains hard enough because i have a ridge built up around the edge.

will be back at it today, there's buckets yet to go.

one good thing though with all the weeds in there is that there is not much purslane. :)
What type of purslane are you glad there is not much of?

Oh, ok. I was hoping it wasn't miner's lettuce, because that is also in the purslane family and it is delicious on tacos, burgers, and sandwiches!

purslane is edible but it has some issues with oxalates and people are picky about texture or flavor so it isn't popular. i can eat it myself, Mom won't touch it.

another basic problem is that it doesn't get going until the weather is warm enough so you can't use it as an easy early season green, by the time it comes along it's competing with your more desireable plants and you really don't want to let it get going in your gardens full bore with all the seeds it can drop.

i was so excited about taking the trash and recycling out this morning that i woke up almost four hours early. i didn't get back to sleep but i did have a nice breakfast (a bowl of chili with shredded cheese and some mustard on top).

after i got everything out there (walking through the few inches of fresh snow) and all set up i came back in and took a short nap. then i shovelled the snow off the driveway and then i was awake for a bit until Mom went to her thing and then i took another nap. ahh! much better!

however when i woke up from that nap i realized i did not have to take the recycling out and so i went out and got those bins and brought them back in.

and then took yet another nap.

one of those daze... :) (yes that coffee cartoon is very fitting some mornings for me - i'm here, but i'm not here here).
