    Winter Greenhouse

I am in Zone 5. I thought about the using 55 gallon drums that are painted black to collect heat. Would you put these in the center of the greenhouse or on the sides? And yes, it will be in full sun. If I get it going soon, I think it's still warm enough here that the seeds would germinate...

    How Do Deer Know?

I can also remember knowing when they were ripe by seeing the purple bird droppings on things around the yard. Sorry, I'm hijacking your thread. I'll quit reminiscing.

    How Do Deer Know?

They aren't quite ripe yet. My parents had a huge Mulberry that has been there for over 80 years. Only reason I know is I've seen pics of it from back when my great grandparents lived there. The twigs off that tree made great bows and arrows when we were kids, LOL. We would get in trouble...

I'm regretting putting them in the raised beds now, as it gets dry quicker than in the garden.

    Cucumber Disease

Yep, I think you might be right. It started on the edges. I think I got them in the ground by 3 weeks though. They just were getting their first set of true leaves when I transplanted them. So will watering save them or is it too late?

    How Do Deer Know?

Mulberry leaves are higher in protein than most any other tree leaf. That's why they are going after them. I feed my rabbits the leaves as part of their natural feeding diet and they love them. I am surprised you have to buy them where you're at. They are the first trees that pop up around...

    Cucumber Disease

I transplanted my Homemade Pickle cucumber 2 weeks ago, and they have gotten a disease already. A large portion of the leaves has turned a light brown color and are paper thin. It started out as a small spot and continued to get bigger and bigger. It has almost engulfed the leaves completely...

    Compost Tea Shelf Life

I just learned the process of making compost tea. I have some nice compost, so I am going to try it. My question is how long do I have to use up a batch? If it has microbes in it, I'd think there would be a limited time it could sit, but I may be wrong. Also, any tips from people with...

    Dirt Stuck to Roots

I was moving some peas and beans from the parts of the row that were crowded to the thinner parts last night, and I noticed several of them had very dense dirt stuck to the root system. Is this typical and no big deal or does it indicate a deficiency in my soil.
