    Can I compost olives?

It is, isn't it? Fortunately, I actually have multiple piles and can spread it around. I was worried about what the salt would do, but I think I will get rid of the brine elsewhere. Appreciate all of the input !!!

    Can I compost olives?

I was given 320 canning jars today and about 50 quarts of them are olives. I am going to empty all the jars into the compost pile. They are from 1999 and most of the fruit is dark and disgusting looking. Can I compost the olives without the brine?

    Canning Nectarines

Is there a way to peel nectarines without having a lot of flesh cling to the skin? Would freezing work, as it does for tomatoes?

    Lemons

I generally freeze my juice, but this year, I canned strawberry lemonade concentrate and was thrilled with the result. You can make the concentrate without another flavor, as well. Just use approximately equal parts lemon and sugar, to your taste, and water bath it for 20 minutes in pints. No...

    Winter Squash

I swear, so many people think California is a thousand miles long and a mile wide, and all beach! The Central Valley is a tough place to grow things because of the lack of rain between like June and September, but if you can get water, you can row things like crazy.

No ears on my corn stalks

I researched before I planted both kinds and settled on 12" apart. I planted six rows of 12 plants each of two varieties, a month apart. Went out to check very closely last night and there are two tiny silks sprouting out, and those stalks are thickening at those spots, but none of the other...

No ears on my corn stalks

Did a quick search and couldn't find a thread on this, but I might have missed it. I planted two sections of corn this year. The sugar dots are doing beautifully, two medium sized ears per stalk. A month later, I planted red sweet corn. It is now six feet or more high, the tassles are...

Cukes and H2O melons, newbie error?

I haven't ever made pickles from cukes, only zucchini, so I am clueless. Can someone answer that? Because if I can make pickles with slicing cukes, I am SO there! Water. Hmm. I think I will favor the melons on that one. Would much rather have them than cukes !!! I have trellised the...

Cukes and H2O melons, newbie error?

I may have made a mistake. I planted slicing cukes next to watermelons. The cukes are vining like mad, eight plants, and a total of six fruit. The watermelon are vining and about to bloom. I don't know if the low production on the cukes is because they are too close to watermelon. Someone...

Same situation here. Will the RoundUp leech out into the adjacent tomatoes? Stump is 8 months since being cut. Will I need to freshen the cut or will drill holes work well enough? Advice !!!

    Zucchini...

I removed my zucchini plants today. They have produced 6 to 24 fruit every day for about a month, and truthfully I have had enough zucchini for a while. They tumbled into adjacent garden beds, and when I dug them out, the producing stems were more than three feet long. Now the acorn can get...

    Potato question...

I hilled mine a total of three times, about 10" total. Next time, I will do it maybe four or five times, 16 to 16", because my plants fell over way too soon. Especially after a good watering. I just learned about the trench method last week. Since I have a tiller, I think I will try that...
