    Asparagus Transplanting...HELP!

Thanks for the advice. I tried to get a really big root ball for each one. I hope they will be safe and happy in their new spot. We have milder winters down here, so the ground doesn't really freeze. I was more worried, cause they are Not dormant now. I was afraid that would make the...

    Asparagus Transplanting...HELP!

Finding this thread now is funny timing, since I just had to move my asparagus yesterday. It was an emergency, since they are in my community garden spot and were somehow getting knocked over and broken. The most recently broken one was 5 ft long and broke off near the ground. :somad They...

    Blackberry's

I have a "volunteer" blackberry coming up already. I want the plant, but not in that location. I actually want to try growing it in a big pot. Will that work?

    Heritage Seed Swap

Hunkie Dorie- Sorry about your Dad. That was way too young to have to lose him. I hope your brother wises up about the chemicals. marshallsmyth - Good point about the selective breeding. My budget is tight, so I usually get whatever I can of open pollinated-heritage varieties, then grow...

    What are they called?

I'll try the DE next year. I hope it works out. My plants were already stressed from extreme heat, so it just did them in.

    Cut trees for raised beds?

If you get it longer than you need for the oak walls, you can use the extra to support a small fence later- or just tie plants to it.

Permaculture!! This will lighten up your brain!

Permaculture is a great idea, but I was frustrated finding info on permaculture for cooler areas for a while. Lots of stuff was done in Australia or the tropics. I'm in zone 7. Midwest Permaculture had more info on the plants that could grow well here. Some good worksheets you can download to...

    FIGS!

Drying them is easy too. I wonder if they would make a good wine. That pie sounds wonderful.

How do I use these plants for tea?

Lemon balm (smellius goodus) I thought its fancy name was Melissa officinalis, but you may be right. :D It's good stuff. Some of these herbs can be used as medicines, so you might get a book on that. The lemon balm is used for calming. It's also got antiviral properties.

Garden gloves, do you or don't you?

My Mom fell in love with hers so she got me a pair. They say " Atlas Fits " on the back. They are better than the others I tried. My fingernails still get a little dirt under them, but 1/2 the time that's before I remember to put them on. I don't like wearing leather gloves but the...
