Advice on starting seeds and artifical light

Thanks guys, I will look into making my own and saving some $$$$. I can sprout them in the house, that is no problem. I just can't have a full on green house in my dining room again, it was too much. I have a heat lamp I can turn on in the event the temps will drop to much in the room.

Advice on starting seeds and artifical light

I am going to start seeds indoors (flowers and Veggies). Last year I did this on my dining room table but I can not do that this year. I am going to start them in an extra building off of my garage but I am concerned about the amount of light. Thoughts on this set up ? Is it worth the...

    Questions about Boxwoods

In my dream garden (which I WILL have one day) I want a formal garden lined with a short Boxwood hedge. I drew this garden out the other day and I am going to need a TON of boxwoods. How does one propagate Boxwood?

Gray shub with shiny dark green leaves

I do not think it is an Azazel or Rhododendron. I am going to guess Indian Hawthorn.

    Growing Sweet pea help again!

I can work the ground all year here so that is no problem. I think I will try planting them early and see what happens after all this is all an adventure for me. I will have plenty of seeds left if they do not germinate.

    Growing Sweet pea help again!

Yes I am wanting to grow annual sweet pea. The fence I grew them on is wooden which provided the afternoon shade. They burnt up in early July. The plants did OK otherwise but I only got a few VERY SMALL flowers. I had no problem with aphids. I am afraid full sun might be to much (it is not...

    Growing Sweet pea help again!

Hi everyone! So I am still wanting to grow sweet peas. I tried this past summer but they did not do well, they pretty much burnt to a crisp (I am sure it did not help that it was one of the hottest, driest summers on record here). I started the seeds indoor and moved them outside in mid April on...

What should I use to shade the roots of my Clematis?

I have read that Irises are great for shading Clematis roots and Irises are very easy to grow.

    Annual Sweet Peas help please.

Thanks guys. Martha (Stewart that is) says in her book Gardening Month by Month to sow the seeds out side during March and April (March 17 thru April to be exact), but The Sweet Pea Book (author's name escapes me) says it is better to start them indoors. So I wasn't sure which to do.

    Annual Sweet Peas help please.

I ordered a bunch of annual sweet pea seeds from Thompson and Morgan. I started them in a jiffy plastic topped seed starting kit. 2 varieties grew well and are now about 13" tall about a month later. The rest did nothing. I opened the jiffy pots and the seeds were mush. I started a new batch on...

    Chickens and Flower beds

I was wondering if anyone was able to keep flower beds with their chickens that free range. My girls get to come out and about a few times a week to roam and they wreak havoc on my beds. I am planting more small bushes that the girls will not bother and moving to more annuals than perennials and...
