    @baymule If I'm making it for gifts, I take each petal off. If I'm making it for home/family use, I just take the whole flower (off stem) and leave the green base in. It doesn't effect the quality but does look a tinged with green and then you cannot tell easily if it molds. It lasts very long...

    Oh and I forgot to comment about your title... As far as I know, our skin (the biggest organ we have) is porous so it absorbs very well.

    Violets are a great source of Vitamin C. You could eat them raw, make a tea, or even a poultice. Have you tried an elimination diet to see what you may be eating that is causing the reaction?
