Thanks desertlady! I actually don't have a clue what kind of pumpkin it is, since its a volunteer. I bet its a regular orange pumpkin, but still nice to have one in the garden. I wish I knew the variety of it.

Don't give up. If you still have plants it is not too late. The variety is important to consider when choosing your seed. I always plant several varieties. I have never had luck with the whites or the the weirds. Connecticut field always works for me even in a bad pumpkin year. Then again you are in Maine. The cold comes pretty early so far north! I will weigh them-more to come...

You might! There's been some heartache here. I need a weight though!

Beautiful pumpkins, by the way. I'm jealous.

I pulled out my plants a few weeks ago. I only planted one 4x4 section of the garden with them and didn't get anything out of there. I planted squash king, atlantic giant, a carolina cross watermelon and a regular rouge vif d'etampes pumpkin. The soil in there sucks. I pulled a quarter of it out this spring and put in compost and cow manure, aged. I watered with duck water. Not enough.

Well my one pumpkin appears to actual be a pumpkin cross (Its vine died so I harvested and got a better look), but it looks like I might have a white pumpkin growing :fl

Well my 5 year old grandson asked if he could borrow my pumpkins for a jack-o-lantern and a scarecrow. Of course he went home with them. I'm sure there are more hiding in the jungle. They are 14 and 16 lbs. A few lbs shy of the world record.
