I peeked in my boxes this morning and the basil I sowed on Wednesday is up!
I really planted thickly thinking that I would likely have poor germination, but it looks like they ALL came up. I'm going to be scrambling for places to put everything soon.
The golden podded purple seeded peas from Marshall are up, and also the Japonica striped maize. Tomatoes and peppers are still snoozing.
Oh yeah, the ancient lupine seed (2005) has started to emerge, at least two of them have raised their little heads so far. That may be the sum total, but I'm surprised at even that!

I walked into the plant room last night and actually processed the growth the tomatoes have made over the past week. I finally started transplanting. So far I have only done the hybrid juicing varieties and some of the paste tomatoes and I am very impressed with stalk size and root growth. Nice fuzzy roots. Last year was such a bust for me. Most of the plants I am transplanting this year are the size of the plants I put in the GROUND last year! This new light system is really working in my favor.

Light makes so Much difference! Sun source or otherwise . . .
I've got everything except a few new transplants in as much sunlight as I've got, in the greenhouse. Overcast, drizzling day. Probably, as soon as I leave the sun will come out and bake what's in there!

Speaking of zinnias....
I'm not exactly sure what to do with them now. They are getting pretty tall. Do I need to transplant them or will they be fine in these containers until I plant them outside?

Depends on if you want stunted zinnias or full sized ones.
It would help to see a photo, but I would transplant them if I thought the plants were outgrowing their containers. Otherwise, pray for nice weather and soon!

If you have enough larger containers and potting soil, you can upgrade them and buy a little more time. I usually end up taking my tomatoes out of the cell packs and moving them into 16-24oz. containers I have collected from butter, cottage cheese, etc. It will help keep them from getting root bound.

Pinching makes sense on some of my zinnias each year. I will have them in 4-pack eventually but they have just emerged.
I won't want them to move on to flowering until they are established in the garden with some growth.
If they have a set of good leaves, they likely have some good buds on the stems to pinch to.
