i was up some of the night due to some unplanned chocolate consumption that wired me good. with the storm today i had to get the trash out and no recycling needed to go out so that makes it much easier. one bag at the curb and i'm done. wind was pretty up and will be all day and half of tomorrow. snow squalls here or there.

Dear everyone, how is everything? I am doing fine here.
This winter i didn't close the cafe and keep daily services (Mon-Thur 12-14 / Fri-Sun 12-17) - and the business is better than I imagined.

The tiny cafe has some lovely regulars now, almost like chosen family. Gradually, there are also more people heard about it. I am grateful for current life and keep evolving to the next version me.

Meanwhile, i started writing children books, and designing a strolling map for our little town. For gardening, i have a few new ideas to try after the weather is milder, and i will open a new thread then.

Hope you are doing fine, too. I made some carrot cake recently and people love it - simple, real, and delicious.

That's awesome that you started writing children's books! I'd love to see them! Did you self publish any?

Any that you think it are okay to move as seedlings in a garden row for better spacing, those could have been started in a seed bed. Vegetables like onions, beets and chard should make good choices. Seeds that may have trouble with germination may especially benefit if the plants are suitable for transplanting. We have had a lot of trouble with sunflower seedlings being eaten by critters and they do just fine with transplanting but the attacks are usually so bad that we start them in the greenhouse. Surprisingly, they are generally left alone when they show up beyond the sprouted seed stage.

if you can find enough square pots that are fairly deep you can put them all in the same area right next to each other and fill them with some potting soil and perhaps a mix of your garden soil and then use your seeds in those pots and remember to water them enough so they don't dry out.

when the sprouts come up you have a chance of knowing what they are and using larger pots means the roots should have some chance of not being too heavily disturbed when you plant them someplace else.

for perennial plants i suggest growing them a few years if possible before planting them out - it will give you a better chance of having them survive plus you get to see how they get through a winter and what they're like (and if you really do want to plant them out at all).

I had my coffee and way too much breakfast. I have been ordering seeds and trying to decide what to do. DD is starting flowers in milk jugs today. I am going to order 2 more metal bins to put where the poles are for the pole beans. I think they will do better and I will have less problems with weeds. I think eventually I will win my weed problem with stopping the cow manure.

I am thinking of buying another metal bin and make it into a seed bed and then transplant seedlings out of it. I am thinking I would only have it half filled with potting soil and when the seedlings are all out I could use that for making compost for the summer. I am going to use the barrels I have, but it is a lot of work for me.

The weather here is cold, but seems warm compared to the rest of the country. I hope it does not get too bad and people lose electricity.
