    A Seed Saver's Garden

I'm growing Ocimum tenuiflorum this year too @Pulsegleaner. I'm not even sure why really. It's time I stop fibbing to myself that I'll make tea with it, I never do. But a good smell carries a lot of value to me in an annual so there's that. I envy your knowledge of oregano. I'd like to...

After some experimentation, I feel like the most productive and also easiest, least laborious way to grow pole beans is up single vertical poles. I tried @Blue-Jay 's method but using little saplings instead of lumber. I drive them in 2 feet and they're good to go. I've never had one fall...

Double Red is a sweet corn for fresh eating, developed by Alan Kapuler. High in antioxidants, which makes me feel better about growing corn because that species doesn't have a great nutritional profile, lol.

    A Seed Saver's Garden

When I planted my 'Celway Terracotta' celosia seeds I was a bit miffed, and didn't think the seeds would sprout because they looked worse for wear with all the yellow powdery protective coating at the bottom of the packet. And 10 seeds, gosh, that seemed so stingy to me considering the packet...

'Sugaree' is perhaps the best tasting snap pea I've ever eaten, tall plants though.

I'd be really surprised if they harm them much, I'd think they would all need to be quite close for adverse effects?

Great news, that has nothing to do with gardening. 😂 The entire coffee shop industry here is controlled by the Tim Horton's franchise. It no longer has any meaningful competition. I won't even get into all the problems with the place, but it can be rightly called a national disaster of the...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

Complete weather misery. Awful. So cold I can't even put the transplants outside, aside from the perennial seedlings. And even those I'm bringing in at night to the sunroom. The greenhouse is barely warm enough the last couple days, its not really worth the bother of carrying all the trays...

    What plants NOT to plant

It's remarkable how climate affects what's considered invasive. Tansy, speedwell and morning glories are all highly valued here in gardens, and I've never seen them behave aggressively. Same with what the list of plants you originally posted ducks, those are all fairly sought after garden...

    Your Weather, 2026

I have had really good success planting radishes in the carrot rows, to mask the smell the flies gravitate to. Coffee grounds (fresh, not used) work pretty good too. If you can cover the smell of the foliage you won't have much of a problem with the flies. You do need to reapply the coffee...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

Had some fun planting tonight. Such an enjoyable experience to sow seeds, and I managed some thinning too on my vigorous nicandra seedlings, all the fruits, and the Limoncello basil. The pile of basil cuttings smelled like absolute heaven when I was done, lemon verbena meets...well I'm not...

One of the hopes for this season is this rhubarb variety will finally catch, 'Holsteiner Blut'. (Ghastly name!) It will be 2 or 3 this year, geez I can't remember, but old enough to be gaining in size - which it hasn't. I have a few kinds of rhubarbs and must say that of all of them...

I am finally seeing weather on the horizon that I can start the beans in. I need to be able to put the pots outside once they sprout, and I have no intention of starting any until I'm sure that can be done. I'm fine with bringing them in and out for the night until I can plant them in the...

And on that topic I found this, which I'm also kind of thrilled about because they too seem a really good size - the Blue Fiore salsify. I need to do more research on it because it's a different species and I barely did my homework when I ordered seeds for these. I like the look of 'em! The...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

I saw this tonight and thought of your salsify post @digitS', I bought seeds from 2 places and this photo is from one. So, it would appear that in fertile garden soil they can get a fair size! Kinda glad I stumbled on that.
