i have one flower stalk that is just about to bloom. out of about 12 plants total only this one has a flower on it this year. they just did not get very much light last year and had a late start besides. this year i watered them a few weeks earlier than last year.
i still have one large main...
horsetail roots can run a long ways before surfacing - at the bottom of this project page you can see pictures of the area and how far those roots were going:

i consider it rather rude to not clear off snow from a vehicle on top, but for a van or truck with a topper that is not easy to do. so what do you do? you hang way back and hope people don't come the other direction and blast you with their blowoffs.
our last "team" visit to the laundromat involved me feeding a machine a bunch of quarters and it had this spring pushback of the coin so if you let go too soon it would come flying back out. of course one did and then not only did it get dropped but it hit the rounded edge at the bottom of the...
this morning Mom managed to tangle up the thread inside her sewing machine and it was making some pretty bad noises...
i took the cover off the end and the thread was wound around something in there and so with some tweezers, seam ripper, small flashlight and my fingers i was able to get most...
if we get bad enough weather my internet connection will go down anyways, so as long as i can save what i'm working on and shutdown within a few moments i'm usually ok. my backup power supply and filter for the PC will last a few hours, but i still don't want to run it because most of what i'm...
i didn't think i had this much to do, but i'm going back through all my bulk beans i harvested last fall and making sure they'e checked out before i put them in their jars for longer term storage. so far i've found at least a few lbs of Purple Dove beans that i thought were already gone through...
we had some storms here this early evening. possible tornadoey but not right over us. as usual if it gets lightning i shut down the computer and do other things.
further north they're dealing with the results of an ice-storm.
morning comes too soon here, so off to Zzzz...
you can eat the whole pod, but it isn't a pencil shape, it's more flat with the pencil along one edge. i'm really not sure of the naming convention with peas... :)
i like them about any way! those pods and fresh peas often don't make it out of the garden in any way other than my tummy...
over the years i've had really bad luck with the kinds of peas that are thick and round pods meant for fresh eating (sugar peas, or snap peas they are often called).
a few years ago i was gifted with a pea that does survive and i've been so glad to finally have one that grows. i don't plant it...
if fresh coffee grounds would keep squash bugs and borers away it might be worth it for some people... finding the minimum effective dose.
i still haven't taken the old frozen squash out of the freezer to use for feeding the worms... i keep forgetting because it is so buried back in the...
yes, they (pepper plants) are a plant that needs some warmth to survive so anything close to freezing is not going to help them out, plus they need to be watered once in a while. they pretty much need to be treated like a house plant IMO.
the soil in the pots can be used in the compost heap or...
i was thinking aluminum and black grease pencil type writing. if that pencil grease has graphite in it that would not fade in the sun. grease markers can wipe off. just trying to think of ways of doing this that don't involve more plastic bits or extra gadgets.
you can write things down, on paper, a note, send someone to the store, and they will still come home with the wrong item.
Mom needs a lot of light for her quilting and we've had these large bright shop lights in her room that shine light up on the white ceiling and that reflects down all over...
sharpie ink? doesn't that come off with rubbing alcohol?
i don't like extra stuff in the gardens to have to work around so i do all my plantings in rows and then try to space them so i can tell by looking at them as to where i've planted what. the other thing is that any extra stuff runs the...
