    Three Sisters Garden

Well Ive been exploring Baker Creek and think I figured it out. I believe the corn could have been Stowell's. The name sounded familiar. Either way Im going to plant something I already have. I guess I'll just see what happens. I did find a bean that looked interesting. Due to where I...

    Three Sisters Garden

:frow Well I did plan to use the corn dry. I have no problem changing the variety. For some reason the shoe peg didn't come to mind. I planted corn on the slope around my driveway two seasons back. By accident most dried on the stalk so I saved it. I remember when I removed it from the...

I'm in Southern Cal. I have only seen maybe 3 horn worms in 12 years in my property. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come next year. The link did say that tilling usually killes the larvae. Well I have raised beds so I dont till. I think I will figure something out for next year...

    Canning Squash

If I am not mistaken winter squash, pumpkin etc. can be canned in a pressure canner as cubes. They to not recommend canning mush because the jars have a hard time reaching proper temp. I remember doing butter nut one year. I would drain and mash. :hu...

    Canning DICED Tomatoes

This might be a bit late but I cold pack as well. But I am an extremely lazy canner. I go rustic, no peeling. When you pack the jars, thats the trick, pack them as tight as possible. I water bath. Takes a bit longer but just habit. I guess I use the recipie that says "in their own juice"...

    Bragging on San Diego

All was well up in North County. We got out the lanterns and flashlights. My friend and her family stopped by for an hour or so. We sat in the yard and chatted, aka had a beer. Kids were happy to have another 3 day weekend. I didn't leave my property but all seemed to go well. G

    spent corn stalks???

So what the best way to dry them? I have never really successfully grown corn before. Not sure this time was successful either but we did pick 15 ears yesterday. :D Do you just let them stand until they are good and brown? I have to tell you my kids were in heaven. We shucked the ears out...
