I have been posting and learning a lot on BYH and BYC for just over a year now. Only recently joined this forum and thought it was about time to post some pictures of what we get up to in Belize, hope I don't bore anyone.
This is an area of the garden which I am making into a lawn, it is a...
I am not looking for anything in particular at the moment, as for the cost to send me some, I really don't know. But that was a very kind thought and very much appreciated.
You can find a limited supply of seeds here. usually the basics, cabbage, tomatoes, spinich that sort of thing, now all...
I use wood shavings straight from my chicken coop/goat pen, which also has a lot of hay mixed in that the silly goats waste, so by using it for mulch I don't consider it that wasteful.
It works well put in on thick the few weeds that have come through are really easy to pull. The chickens love...
Ariel 301 - Memmonites a plenty they came here about 50 years ago, and believe me without them Belize would starve.
Rockinrobyn29 - Oh I love squash, that is something I must try.
Ninnymary - nurseries, what are they:lau No we don't have them here, there are one or two places I can buy a few...
We never learn do we. My saying is muck about with nature and she will always bite back.
Few days ago my DH was telling me about an article he had read, (I seem to rember this related to the UK) that milk from cloned cows has now reached the human food chain.
It's pretty scary really.
Field bindweed and Perinnial Morning Glory are I believe one and the same thing. I have loads of the stuff here in my bush, but fortunately the goats love it and keep it under control.
I have noticed it spreading over onto areas of land I wish to cultivate for vegetables and flowers.
Short of...
Coldest months here are December and January, but usually still in the 70's, although that said last year it got to a very cold 52 Brrrrrrrrrrrr. Wooly hats and sweaters for us. :lau
Temperature usually highs at maybe about 92, but the humidity can be a killer getting in the 80's sometimes...
No your chickens certainly won't complain.
I let the head dry out on the plant and just throw the complete head in their pen, and stand back.
The goats get the whole head chopped into smaller pieces, it's a bit like watching a feeding frenzy.:gig
Well thank you. That's certainly a good start, some of the things I have been thinking may grow here at this time of year.
But when you come from a colder, wet climate (England), it's very hard to get your hard round planting tomatos and melons in September.:lau
Thanks.
Can anyone give me some idea of what vegetables to plant at this time of year.
I believe our climate is similar to that of South Florida.
I am going to try some potatoes, only becuase I have a few sprouting.
Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.
I do the same with sunflower seeds, buy them for the animals and plants some for decoration and to feed to the animals.
Not yet tried it with beans, but will do.
Hello from Belize. I am a newbie to this forum but active on BYH and BYC.
I am not new to gardening as such, but new to gardening in this climate, which I understand is comparable with that of South Florida. So watch out all you Floridians, I will be picking your brains.
I have now got...
