I'm planting these also! From what I understand the quinoa has a coating on it that you need to clean off before you cook/eat it. However.......this keeps the wild birds from picking the plants clean!
What about colored pencils? Dollar tree has them in a 12 pack for 1$. Put the blue ones next to broccoli, the green ones by the onions...etc etc. It just kinda hit me when I saw a pencil laying in the driveway under some ice and it was a Halloween pencil. It weathered the winter pretty...
Thank you Digits!
The seeds of change link popped up when I googled it, but it only lead to an information page, I couldn't find the ordering info. I'll check all the links...hoping to be able to only order from 1 or 2 companies for everything.
Wifezilla: I LOVE my bakers creek...
Is this an issue with wild blackberries also? Maybe that's why I don't get all that much fruit from them! lol
I'll be planting raspberries this year also. Do these need a fall trimming too? Thanks so much! It seems like every new thing I plant has a different set of care instructions. I just...
I'm trying both this year also. My plan is to grow them in some of the clearings in our woods. The quinoa won't need netting, but I may need to protect the amaranth from wild birds. I'm also considering putting the amaranth up near the street for an additional visual block. All the better if I...
I'm going to try amaranth also, but I didn't know that about quinoa! That would make it ideal to grow in some of the clearing we have in our woods. The main problem I have is wild birds, but it sounds like they can't eat the quinoa!
Thanks for the info!
My first year after we bought this place.....I couldn't add enough of anything to my soil to make a difference. It was just awful! Nothing grew. I think I got 6 tomatoes out of 4 plants. lol That winter we got chickens and guineas and I started just dumping old litter on the frozen beds. I mixed...
My compost pile is frozen on top. lol If I poke hard with the pitchfork and get through the frozen stuff it's doing ok underneath, warmer then the air at least. I don't want to add on top of ice and snow though, it's just going to freeze solid and not start working till thaw. So I was...
I agree completely boggy. All the 'off the grid living' articles are just too much for me. I will never live without electricity and I won't be building my own 'green' home. The Dec/Jan issue was pretty good....lots of stuff we can use and an article on growing asparagus....which I want to...
Many of the things I want to plant come in packets of 100 or 200 seeds. There is no way I can have 100 of each variety! lol Does anybody know how long the seeds will be viable? Can I save them a few years or am I better off just buying new? Also, is there a storage method?
I always just bought...
