    Keeping Weight Off

When I just up the exercise, all I get is really firm fat. :he What worked for me a few years ago was to up the protein and the complex carbs and to stay away from white flour and as much sugar as possible. Lost 80 lbs in less than a year. The drawback was that I didn't have as much...

    Some more fall color

I'm still amazed that this is in Amarillo! I think I really am in love with the folks that had this place long before we got it. They made it such an oasis. In addition to all the trees, we are surrounded, literally, with a huge lilac hedge. The neighbors say that the plants came from...

    Redneck planter

Not a toilet, but still pretty redneck! One defunct cream separator + an old stock tank = fountain. :happy_flower And it's mine, all mine!! Well, I do have to share it with the toads, but that's another story.

    Growing Carrots

Joe, if I could figure out how to ship these things, I'd send you some! As for trying to find a stable for leftover carrots, I've got 2 4-legged carrot eating machines of my own. Between the horses & I, we can wipe out 5 lbs of carrots in an afternoon. :)

    Some more fall color

Finally get to take a break from winterizing everything and thought I'd share what my trees looked like BEFORE the wind started. This is the view going to the barn. Sure glad the neighbors had the good taste to line their trees up properly!

    Redneck planter

I threatened to do that when we redid the bathroom and it took almost forever for DH to remove it from the yard!

I actually know the answer to this one. Do you??

Just a thought about how not to mow baby trees, unless you have a fantastic memory and are the only one who ever operates the lawn mower... tomato cages, or some other sturdy all enclosing, highly visible barrier! My DH, and occasionally my overly mowing addicted neighbor, have been known to...

    Growing Carrots

I just got a batch of those wonderful recycles, too. All licked clean. :clap My BIL ranches, got a semi load last winter and was wondering what to do with them. He brought me 7 today and said I'd get more later!

    Gardening with the Old Folks

This thread is really touching a nerve today. I'm putting in a flower garden at my Mom's for her to enjoy...and trying to let it be HER garden, not one of mine. Like Steve, I was going to unload some more, but let's just leave it at "I love my Mom". :bouquet

Still have some stuff going...in October?!?!

My lettuce, spinach, carrots and peas are growing like, um, weeds right now. I'm holding out hope that I will have a homegrown salad on Thanksgiving!

You Know You're a Gardener When....

And when you start worrying that the salad stuff won't be ready in time for Thanksgiving! Really have my heart set on spinach salad with pears and candied walnuts. You might also be a gardener when your own gardens aren't finished (whatever that is :happy_flower ) and you find yourself at the...

Not sure if this is a harvest, a shrub, or a flower question....

Sounds like the right kind of plant for me! I love the way they look, but I've been afraid they wouldn't survive me. Pretty please, Ron, may I have some seeds?

Falling In Love (a.k.a. Peep's gardening journal)

Back to the arborist question for a sec. I found them almost by accident. We have lots of folks up here who do "tree trimming" and will leave your trees looking like a stalk of broccoli. :barnie I, for some funny reason, didn't like that effect for my forest, so I called the fanciest ad in...

Falling In Love (a.k.a. Peep's gardening journal)

Welcome from someone else who totally undertands the joys of discovery! I know what you mean about thinning trees. When we bought our place, it really needed work, but in the Panhandle, trees are like gold. Finally got the nerve to call the arborists (not tree trimmers) and when they cleaned...

    My Fall Harvest!

And that is why I don't grow corn! Actually, if I could get mine to look like that, I might keep trying.

Daffodil and adding dirt to bed

Okay, we really need a smilie portraying total exhaustion! Operation Rehab Daffy Bed is done. :weee Found tons of bulbs, unfortunately, I guillotined a bunch of them with the shovel. The survivors have all been bone mealed and replanted. Now we wait. After all the roots I found in that...

Daffodil and adding dirt to bed

Alrighty, then. Here we go, Operation Rehab Daffy Bed! This spot has sooo much potential and I have been having a tough time leaving it alone until the window dude was through tromping in it. Now, let the games begin. :tools I got some really neat wrought iron flower boxes at the local...

Daffodil and adding dirt to bed

I have a large and mostly unused flower box that I can start working on now that the new windows are in and I have a daffodil question. There are currently daffies in the box. Don't know how long they've been there, they came with the house. I really need to add another 6-8 inches of soil...

    Wish List

That's too cool! What I really want, other than a full time garden slave, is a climate that will let me grow stuff like that. :happy_flower Ah well, give me another year or two to figure out all the microclimates and we will see. Right now I'll settle on the tough plants.
