Update- I tried broadcasting the seeds, and got zilch. I have a few started inside that I will transplant tomarrow. Just keeping you all in the loop.:P
Sorry to resurrect this post, but...
I planted lavender seeds today, sandy, well draining soil and sprinkled it with a tiny bit of compost (read...tiny!!!!). I gave it a good watering, but not even near a soak. THey should get about 6-8 hours of direct sunlight. With all of the attention paid...
Hmmm I will take this over to him. Maybe a pic would help (I haven't yet seen it-don't know if it is a vine, bush, whatever). But if it thrives on humidity, it is in for a very tough life here in the desert!
My neighbour had asked me about a flowering plant he received as a gift, which he thought were called red trumpets. I looked in the Western Garden book, but no luck. Any ideas?
FYI- I planted some a while back in long rectangular containers, and it is growing like gangbusters. I put some in my tea the other day...heaven!:drool
Hmm...I haven't had any problems with it balling up. Approx 2 months (most of the time very cold) and I have compost. I love it! I don't think it is that hard to turn. Plus, when you turn it there are snails lined up along the drain whole (which means the chickens get escargot!!).
All in all, I...
I already put De in my chicken coop to keep the bugs at bay, but would like to use in my organic garden (especially for the much feared squash and cucumber predators). But if it won't work when it is wet, how do I water the garden and still have effective DE??!!:(
I've had the same problem. Bought some (don't remember which kinds) from a Home Depot and planted them in containers, and they made a very low number of great tasting but wierd looking strawberries (I called them Quasi-Moto Berries).
This year I added June and Everbearing varieties, which are...
So I've got a batch of compost in the composter (see pic). It looks to be just about done, but I need tp let it cool for a month or more DT the chicken poo in it. What do I do with it? Put it in a garbage bag with time and date, and then I can start a new batch in the composter?:/
Cost of one tomato plant that keeps yielding-$3.00.
Cost of feeding chickens that give lots of eggs, while providing free compost and bug control:$16-$22.00.
Cost of not poisoning the only home we've got: Priceless.:rainbow-sun
Toms around my tomatoes (I've heard it not only deters bad bugs, but also attracts good bugs. I've even been told it enhances the tomatoes flavor). Also around squash, cucumbers and zucchini to deter squash bugs and cut beetles.
I planted a slew so that I could also put it in me salads and...
Here in the high desert, we kind of frown of lawns (eat up too much of our precious water). But we have a teensy weensy little yard (like 25 square feet). A small amount of old grass is coming back, but we'd like to lush it up. We've bought seed...hints?
