Thanks Steve! Those seem to be what I'm looking for. All the catalogs that I have do not describe it that way. I knew I'd be asking for trouble if I went ahead and ordered from mine.
I've heard that the seed is good for the chickens. Did you feed it to them?
I'd like to grow broom corn for brooms but need some guidance.
For those that have grown it and made brooms, what is the best variety? I see multi-colored broom corn for sale and not sure if it is purely ornamental or utilitarian. I want to be certain of ordering the corn for brooms before I...
I agree that you should disturb the root ball. Pull it apart a little to loosen. When you do that look to see if it has well formed roots. That will give you a hint as to whether the plant will survive in general. If very few roots, you can trim the leaves about 1/3 so the plant isn't putting...
I planted radishes, spinach and several lettuces today. Even if it snows in a few days, they are hardy varieties and the seed won't rot.
My winter onions are a usable size now. I love how they come back each year.
I grow pineapple mint and apple mint. Very nice and not hard to control. I harvest them so much for iced tea that they don't get a chance to spread. The pineapple is less hardy for me so I must buy plants each year. I should take cuttings and let them root in water all winter like my patchouly...
Michelle and the girls seem very excited about the garden. My first garden was a disaster but it didn't stop me from the renewed hope each spring.
I got a neighbor to till it for me and I asked everyone I knew for advice in the first few years. It was still my garden as the WH garden is theirs...
Spring is the time to think about going on garden tours. :weee
In the colder climates the announcements and schedules are now beginning to be circulated. Our area normally has one every weekend in May and June. Some sell only advance tickets and others sell the day of the event. My tickets have...
Try looking under topsoil because I see many listings in your phone book!! Call around for the best price for the type you want. I will be buying sandy loam for my carrots' raised beds this year.
Also garden centers, lawn and garden and the Saybrook Feed Mill.
Lake-Geauga county line.
So seriously straddling it that the public utility companies haggle over which serves us, delaying repairs.
7 acres with 5 of that gorgeous northeastern hardwood forest.
Agreed #4 not teasel. I looked at my one year plants and they had a more ruffled leaf, although very similar. They also have one main white taproot with root hairs.
I know I have seen that plant and it's driving me bonkers trying to recall what it is. All my botanical texts are packed in storage.
I had tens of thousands of ladybugs on my house and in it. They bite when they land on me as I walk outside the door. Nasty bugs. There are so many I can't help but step on them and swat them when they land and bite and then they stink!
I think they are Asian ladybugs that the Dept of Natural...
I am on the shores of Lake Erie with wet clay soil. My neighbor has dry sandy soil and we both grow horseradish. Her sand poses more of a problem for horseradish spreading. Horseradish grows to zone 9. I don't know your zone.
If you are fertilizing it with anything with a high nitrogen, stop...
