Tink,
This is the recipe that I used for my salsa:
www.thatsmyhome.com/general/zucchini-salsa.htm. The only thing I added was two 15 oz. cans of tomato sauce. It seemed to be a little dry without it. We at it fresh and jarred, and I really can't tell the difference. My family loves it!!
It's that time of year here in E. Tenn. when my garden is winding down. No rain in 3 weeks has really taken its toll. I might get a handful of tomatoes yet and the okra is still podding. I really can't complain since it is supplied me with numerous jars of tomato juice, salsa, tomato sauce...
I would think your problem is not you, it is your cooler night time temps. I believe melons like ground temps above 65 degrees. Let's see what everyone else says.
Everyone else?
As far as a veggie garden, I would start with what I like to eat. Do you like tomatoes, squash or cabbage? Do you use green peppers in cooking? Do you want to freeze, can or preserve? For example, I use lots of green peppers to make tomato sauce, spaghetti sauce and zuchinni. So, next year I...
Sorry to rub salt in it patandchickens, but today is absolutely wonderful. The high was in the upper 80's but very low humidity. It was almost like a touch of fall today. But if I do get one whine - we need some of your rain!
I hate to pour out leftover brine, too. I had some left from some pickled okra, so I ran up to the garden and picked some cayennes and jalepenos. They will be way too hot for us to eat, so maybe I can give them away. I think I ended up with 3 jars of peppers 2 different times
Another 1/2 bushel of tomatoes (still making juice, sauce, chili sauce & salsa), 1 bushel of cubanelle peppers, 4 watermelons (wish those could be stored for winter :P ), 1 cantaloupe and 1 peck okra
I was making a salsa for fish out of papaya & roasted red peppers. It happened to call for a diced jalepeno pepper. I walked up to the garden and picked a nice red one. Now I know that you should wear gloves when cutting peppers, but I thought surely just one won't bother me. WRONG!! My fingers...
Good for you!! That broccoli looks great with those big ole heads. I only got a few side sprouts off mine before the weather suddenly got too hot. Do you know what variety it is?
Sometimes it turns a few shades darker. It helps to keep it in the dark in the back of a cool closet or someplace . If it does turn a dark on top just spoon that out and fix the rest.
We did try sugar free syrup last week and it really wasn't
bad. I'm also looking into whole wheat flour and Stevia. We have switched from potato chips as snacks to Triscuits, cheese, or carrots. But ya know, sometimes you just want a piece of homemade pie.
Thanks for all the great ideas.:)
