You could try Swiss chard. It is a leafy green that you could leave in place for the rest of the summer and on past the frost. You maybe able to harvest it untill spring down there. It tasts like spinash, grows like beets, is very easy to germinate, and will keep coming back as you harvest it.
I had a whole list to get done today, and then a plane came over, spraying pesticide on the field we live in. So DH said to stay inside for the rest of the day. Well, at least I got my peppers planted!
I have a pumpkin pepper ( a kind of eggplant) that sprouted with two attatched stems, and four leaves, like a conjoined twin seedling. :ep Very cool! I cant take a picture, I dont have a camera.
I wasnt able to get anything in today. All three kiddos got shots today, and the baby is teething... so I may be able to do a bit after DH gets home. I will be happy if all I get done is the kitchen cleaned and supper on the table! :barnie
Cool! I diddnt know you could roo them like that! I will try that. And my MIL said she would take a few of them, and I have room for the rest. I will definitely try rooting them though.
Thanks everyone! I did think about making it a houseplant, but I would kill it for sure in the house. :/ Plus it is a six-pack, so that would be a lot!
I just got it at Walmart, Vfem. I have never seen them here before either.
I am achy from yesterday! I dug up another 4 x 12 foot bed, a smaller 4 x 6 foot bed, and 6 squash hills.
But today I can actually get to that planting! Finally. I still have two more beds to dig, but I am going to wait untill I have these planted... give my poor arms a break from hoeing...
I don't think it hurts them to be crowded a bit. Soon it will stop growing and start producing. Zuchinnis are a bush squash, so they don't keep growing forever like winter squash. In the Square foot gardening method they put them in the center of a three foot block. So if it has that much...
I am hoping to finish up planting my flower plants in my cutting garden, and get the squash and cucumbers in. I also badly need to mulch the poor strawberries. I am having trouble keeping them wet enough already!
If only I diddnt have any dishes, laundry or cleaning to do! I could spend...
I dont know what to do with it now! I just love it, but I dont really have a lot of shady spots here. It is so sunny all year, that we have to plan on a little less sun then suggested, so I am thinking they need pretty much all shade.
It says 4-8 hours of sun, but I am not sure that I have...
Maybe the addition of more dragonflies helps keep the mosquitoes down.
I got part of my cutting garden put in, and I am working on my cucumbers and squash today. I diddnt know there was a downside to rain untill I read about all of ya'll not being able to plant!
Sweet potatoes also will root along the stem. I have not grown them, but from my reading, they can root down anywhere they touch the ground.
So it will not hurt them. But the sweet potatoes are actually swollen roots, not tubers, so they grow under it, not above it. I think. So it...
Cool! Thanks! I actually got it more for the medicinal side, i diddnt know it was also a culinary herb. I got the seeds from pinetree. I havnt looked at them yet, so I dont know how many are in there.
