I grew up just a few blocks from the Huntington. Now I am closer to the mountains than there. I have one lettuce growing...in my chicken run, where the artificial shade takes over about 10:30. I can't say that is worth eating...it is more of a thick stem with a mini romaine lettuce head on...
The plants are getting about 1-2 inches then just stopping. They remain green but never grow beyond that. Another one grew, but never pushed through the ground. I found it when I decided to turn that portion of the garden again.
I bought new seeds to see if maybe I just got sold an old pack...
I am just outside Pasadena. I have my own little oasis up here at the foothills. I want more stuff in my garden and to keep it as year round as possible. Any ideas? please let me know!

I haven't been able to get any of my watermelon vines to grow this year. They all start and then just fail. I was once told by someone who grew up in Kentucky to put a table spoon of mayonnaise in the ground next to the stalk. I haven't done this with any of these only because they seemed too...
