4 sprouts! One just opened up today and I must say in only a matter of five and half hours, those little sprouts really move! It was just starting to open this morning when I checked and now the little white tail is just cruising on out of that seed.
My friend has a rosemary plant in his apartment that sits on a windowsill. He keeps the window open. Well, its open whenever I go over there and this rosemary is quite tall.
I don't have any grow lights. Would sunlight from a window work?
I just found my packet of carrot seeds and a packet of corn from last year. I'm adding those to my garden plants this year. So so far I'm attempting to plant the following this year:
Sweet Corn
Touchon? Carrot (that is what the package says)
Spearmint
Rosemary
Cucumbers
I may add in the...
I'm attempting two herbs this year. Mint and Rosemary, mint being for tea, and rosemary for other dishes. I bought seeds and I was wondering what is the best way to start these seeds? I could sprout them in a plastic bag and then plant them in soil, or would it be best to just plant them in...
So where is this bill right now in its path to becoming law? This kind of thing makes me want to move out to the middle of no where and start my own country. :)
Ok, so even though you all suggested to direct plant the seeds, I couldn't get my organic soil over to the apartment and I was itching to start something. So I dampened a paper towel and put it in a plastic bag. I put 6 seeds in the bag and set it on a table near a window. Sure enough, 2 days...
I want to be self sustaining in the future. I would like to produce all my own food and not have to rely on going to the store every time I need something. So I was wondering. Can you save seeds from plants you grow for the following year? If so, how do you do it? For example, I'm hoping to grow...
One of my favorite soups is condensed tomato soup. So I was wondering. How do you make tomato soup from home grown tomatoes? Will it be the same? I ask because I want to start growing my own food. This year I'm picking some things I like to eat and I'm going to attempt to grow the ingredients. I...
So put them straight into the soil? Will they do well in a pot? I plan to use them mostly for pickles. :) We love pickles. Some we will use in salads and such.
So my first project for my garden is to start my cucumbers. I am growing them from seeds. Everything I grow this year has to be grown in pots so I was wondering what is the best way to start cucumbers for seeds and once sprouted, how to go about transplanting them or getting them to grow outside.
So stick skewers 1/3 from the bottom and fill some container with water and set the skewers on top so that the bottom of the potato is beneath the water. It will then sprout roots and you cut off the slips when they are 6 inches long. Now, do you break them off or cut them off the potato?
So these purple things are actually the leaves of the plant? So the other end is the bottom? How do I plant it. The slips are on top? Do I plant it in soil?
I guess the heat from the microwave made it start growing. There are about 5-6 slips so far and the largest one is about 2-3 inches long.
I love eating a baked sweet potato with brown sugar. Yum! So my grandmother sent me home with a sweet potato weeks ago. Now that we are moving out of our apartment, I was looking through the kitchen and found it sitting on top of our microwave. It is not going bad or anything, but instead...
I would actually like to have one. I'm working on my yard to get the weeds out and reduce the yard to simply dirt. Then I'm going to add compost to make it ready for plants. I hope to grow the following:
Tomatoes
Garlic
Beets
Peas
Carrots
Radishes
and a few herbs like mint, chamomile, and lavender.
I will attempt kale this year then. As soon as I get my camera back from my friends, I'll take before and after pictures of my "garden" when I clear it out.
