    Fall/Winter Veggies/Fruits

I don't have chickens, but Kale seems like a good idea. Is it for Fall or Winter? Can it survive cold temperatures?

    Fall/Winter Veggies/Fruits

I want to do an overhaul on my "garden". A little background information. My "garden" is 16Xsomething and has a large patch of concrete with the "garden" situated around it. The fence is about 6' tall on all sides. I do get a fair amount of sun coming into the yard. Right now, the grassy areas...

    Garlic Indoors

I bought a bulb of garlic for use in cooking and I had a few questions about it. I want to start growing my own garlic. My "garden" is overgrown with weeds and such and is not usable right now. I'm going to do an overhaul the next time I have off work to get all the weeds out and break it down...

    Growing Grapes

I was sitting here eating some green grapes and I find a few seeds in them. I found four in all. I have an empty pot sitting inside. I was wondering if it was worth putting them into the soil. If they don't work out, I haven't wasted anything but time, but I was wondering if there was really any...

    My garden completely died

This is my garden before the weeds completely took over. Some of the weeds in this picture are now over 5 feet tall.

    My garden completely died

Wow, I should give something a try this fall then. If I were to plant something and have it survive till harvest time, when should I plant. I don't know when the first frost or freeze is.

    My garden completely died

So you can actually grow those plants during the fall and winter. Do they survive the cold temperatures well? What if it snows. If I can find it, I'll attach a picture of my yard as it was a while ago before everything died. The weeds are still alive though and we just got a huge rain (why...

    My garden completely died

Because of all the bees, wasps, and hornets, I was not able to go outside and water the plants. It was so dry because rain was so scarce and every last plant (other than the big giant weeds) died. So now I have a plan. When it starts to get chilly and the bees go away, I'm going to go to town...

    Update on my garden

We love garlic. I took a bit and planted it in a container, having been told it would sprout in the Fall. Its already sprouted and the green "leaf" (its kind of still folded up) is nearly 4 inches tall. Oh, I had another question. Someone told me that water from your fish tank when you do a...

    Update on my garden

Here is a little update on my garden. All of my herbs are dead, one of my cherry tomato plants died, the regular tomato plant might be heading that way (no leaves on it anymore). I got one good tomato out of it. I never replanted any corn or anything so my carrots are the only thing still doing...

    Tomato Plant Problem

All of my plants were shriveled a few days ago because their soil dried out. I almost have to water once a day to once every other day because its so dry here all the time. I'll take a picture tomorrow morning and upload it so you can see what I'm talking about.

    Tomato Plant Problem

My tomato plant is producing tomatoes now. The only problem is the leaves on the lower part of the plant, closer to the soil, are turning yellow and some are dying. I water every other day since it gets dry here. The water is just tap water. Anything I can do? I don't want the plant to die. I'm...

    The Official Carrot Thread

My carrot sprouts are doing well. A few of them are beginning to develop a second set of leaves. :) I've begun to thin them out, but I only had a few minutes this morning and was only able to thin out about 1/2 the planter box.

    Carrot Sprouts - Thinning

They are all in containers. Nothing is actually in the ground of our yard. None of the carrot sprouts were shriveling. They look great, but my mint, tomato, thyme, and such were all starting to shrivel.

    Carrot Sprouts - Thinning

I've heard that once you get sprouts, you thin them out, leaving only the best sprouts to grow. I have many sprouts growing in the same spot in the plant box, so thinning would be a good idea. But all the sprouts look the same. How do I know which ones are best? The biggest ones? Also, I'm...

    Corn is Dying

Perlite or Vermiculite? If thats what you are thinking about then ProMix already has Perlite in it. Little white "rocks" or something like that. I only know what Perlite and Vermiculite is because both are using for incubating snake eggs.

    Garlic

Next time we go to the store we will look up some garlic seeds. Are they hard to grow from seed? So you plant them in the fall and leave them alone till next fall other than occasional watering when its not raining for a while?

    My "Garden"

I no longer have the epi-pen because both of them expired. I keep questioning my mother and grandmother on the correct steps to getting new ones but they keep saying "We'll get you one, don't worry about it." My health insurance is about to go away because I am no longer a full time student. As...

    My "Garden"

What about ground wasps and other bee-type insects? Also, part of the yard (the left grassy side) will possibly be devoted to a few chickens, so only the right grassy side will be made into my garden area. I've got a lot of work ahead of me. Do wasps and the like go away once the sun goes down...

    Garlic

My fiance and I love garlic, so when we went shopping for veggies to grow, we picked up a garlic plant. Its called society garlic. Is this a kind of garlic you can use in cooking? How does it compare to other kinds of garlic? Also, when we got it, it had a purple/pink flower bud on it. We let...
