Thanks, Ron! Your post made me smile, its great to see my hard work appreciated! Thanks about the onions. Those two were some of the largest, I've just let them go. Thank you for all of the info though, its really helpful. I was just waiting for the tops to fall over like my grandma said...
Thank you! I would hate that, Im so glad I live here. Its nice to be able to grow stuff nearly all year. No, I dont. My sister might but I just grow them for an extra burst of color in the garden. Some of my onions are huge, and some are itty bitty, lol. I've harvested about 7-9, my parents have...
This is a follow up on my thread, here:
Well guys, it seems like I havent been updating much! I updated often with my last garden, but I believe its because it wasnt at my house, so it amazed me so much.
Cosmos, tomatoes, and zinnias...
Cherokee Purple tomatoes...
My potatoes have pretty much stopped growing. Some bloomed about a month ago, but they're still green and vibrant. I have some getting ready to bloom now too. I dug down and found plenty of beautiful, red potatoes. Im really thinking about grabbing some, just for the heck of it. One accidentally...
Good luck! We didn't prune ours last year and they went a little nuts! We've got about 4 times our usual harvest this year! We've been picking and freezing as quickly as possible. They sure are delicious!
I've always noticed with my zucchini and summer squash, the leaves are different. The squash are more rounded and the zukes have very sharp edges.
The squash plant is the closest to the camera, on the very right.
Good Lord! Search as I might, I cannot find a pic of a zucchini plant! If I...
I just thought about doing this yesterday! I pulled up half a dozen volunteer plants yesterday and they had pieces of yellow tomato skin stuck to their roots. I figured that's what had happened. I might try this, if I dont get 60 tomato plants! lol
Thanks, desert! Like Green said, they're used to protect the plants from frost. That's how I was taught to do it, so its just routine now.
Thanks, obsessed! That made me laugh! I cant believe you remember that, lol. Yep, I dug this all by hand as well. I made friends with the tiller though and...
:gig I really shouldnt be that lazy, Im out there all the time anyways! But I just toss them and never think about it. I'll get them out eventually.
Thanks. It really is! When we were looking at houses I saw the garden and told my mom this was it. Apparently her and my dad agreed.
I...
LOL, Mom! I left with a friend to go somewhere and the whole time I was thinking.... I gotta get home so they dont eat each other!
Farmer, I thought about ordering one but I found this one instead. Free is way better than $8.95! :gig
Chills, I'll take it as one! I love these bugs...
Thanks! I've been finding my share of ladybugs too. I've been guiding them to my garden, we'll see if they help. The roses are infested with aphids this year, so hopefully a few will hang out there too, lol.
I counted 24 one time, then I counted 18 another.... so Im assuming at least 24...
For you all to see my new garden, that is. Some of you may remember my garden last year, I posted enough photos of it! This year we moved to a new house with its own garden space, so I dont have to have one at my grandmas. I am anyways though, it means I get to plant more, come on...
Isnt it?! In the last pic you can see a brown thing wrapped in web-like stuff. Its a cocoon, a moth hatched in that jar this morning too! The sucker flew away though, haha.
I didnt know where to put this since they arent pests, so move it if I placed it wrong, I wont mind.
I found this egg case at my grandma's weeks ago, hanging on her coop! I brought it home and stuck it in a jar and checked this morning and look at what I found!
Baby mantids! I was...
You're welcome. Same here, although I do live in an agricultural community. Most people my age just do not know where anything they consume comes from. Luckily for me, now being in college, I am able to take agricultural classes and meet other people that share my interests. I get the chickens...
I just wanted to say Congrats & Good Luck on your gardening. Its great to see other young people doing this. I've gardened my whole life (18 years) and its hard to find others my age that do as well. I hope all goes well for you. :D
That is so cool. They are really neat. They really add to the setting. That's amazing that they lasted so long as well!
Ahh, beans are amazing, haha. But I dont like tomatoes, so I cant say much. :P That is really awesome though. And now in the coop, how versatile! :thumbsup
