Congratulations on the tomato plants! We all know I'm no expert, but from the little research I've done, individual LEDs just have very limited spectrum (although a combo of LED can cover all the spectrum). Hard to find regular fluorescent tubes anymore. Hoping you have the best of luck.

I was really concerned about my pear tree. It started blooming about a week ago. Thought the cold was going to wipe out hopes of fruit this year. Two nights of the 20s this week....doesnt seem to have hurt it. Another night in the 20s coming this week. More optimistic now, but we'll see. Pic...

School closings? HA! We had school closings here today because of the rain yesterday. If the weatherman says there's a 10% chance of snow next Thursday, they announce on Monday that school is cancelled on WEDNESDAY.

Me too. If I leave the tab open and open another tab, then come back to TEG, I get that msg.

There are plenty of good reasons....but this might be the BEST reason I've heard yet to stay a pea picker!

@thistlebloom . pretty sure it was you who said this. Read (somewhere on here) that it is important to have sacrificial plants next to the water because the ducks like to nibble when they play. You? More info please? Like...right next to? Best plants? Marsh plants potted IN the water? Plants NOT...

Decisions, decisions. Bend over and reach under every time (I don't bend so well anymore) or take a chance that the chain will come loose. Hmmm. Think I'll just use a split ring to hold the chain on and take my chances. BESIDES, what are you saying about my ducks? They're gonna be nice CLEAN...

Seedcorn @baymule explained to me that you kinda get in the winter doldrums. And that pictures of growing things helps to "pick you up". On my way back to the house from the garden today (spreading brown mulch, not the white mulch you guys are using right now) I spotted these by the path and...

All right! The hay is in place to begin it's magic. Only wish I'd had it down this time last year. Except for cool roots and water retention, its not going to help much this year. But what the hey. Gotta start somewhere. With LOTS of rabbit pellets I STILL might get a few tomatoes.

Where's the fun in that? I WANT to be out there digging a grave size hole in that wet, heavy, sticky clay. If it's not verging on giving me a heart attack or hospitalizing me from exhaustion, how can I justify it as legitimately DOING something? People like you make me sick! Wimp! Hmmmmm...

Well, I haven't really done anything gardenwise since my last post. Rained all Friday. Yesterday I went grocery shopping (special store/really inexpensive) about an hour away, but stocked up for at least a month. Today I am expecting company, maybe play some games, take it easy. Tomorrow, will...

Yeah. That was for ducks4you, who said down here they're annuals. Nobody has lived here for 12 years and I have thousands of daffodil, jonquills, narcissus. And a bunch of gladiolas that need to be divided so they bloom again.

@majorcatfish you should be nice. Nawtherners are just like hemorrhoids. If the come down and go back up, they're not so bad. It's when they come down and STAY down that they're a pain in the A$$.

    Dishes

I'm new here (but done my intro post already) so don't know many of you. But thought I'd jump in here if y'all don't mind. I was a (classic) spoiled man. As I was a single parent, I hired a full time nanny for the kids. She also was a housekeeper. So for years the only dirty dish I ever saw was...

You mean I should re-think that $300 order I planned? Actually, I'll probably just run (a few times) to George W Park and get stuff as I need it. They are only 20 minutes away.

Lots of information about composting, mulching, rotting, etc. Yep. That's what the 12" of hay is for. And the planned additional 8" every year hereafter. "Traditional" compost pile? The yard leaves go into the chicken run, and eventually to the garden, but 6 chickens can only produce so much...
